mojo: Neil finn "One all"

CLOSE. I have "Try Whistling This" and some Crowded House, but not "One All"...

Yerdaddy has Rage Against The Machine implanted in his brain.

Mojo - "The Confessions of St. Ace" by John Wesley Harding

No, but you might possibly be the greatest person on this board for guessing that.

Mojo: Funkadelic, "One Nation Under A Groove"

Bingo. My funk has only been touched on here, which is said because people should realize how impossibly funky I am.

I'm punching out of this one. I'm awful at guessing, and I think people have guessed me correctly with almost every try. I'm simply too easy because of the sheer size of my collection.

Holy mother of fuck! You leave this thread for a few hours and look what happens. I've had to start taking notes, otherwise I won't be able to keep up.

yerdaddy:
Was your guilty pleasure Duran Duran's Rio, or Kiss' Animalize by any chance?

Bite yer tongue. Rio is NOT a guilty pleasure. I am proud to say I have paid money for that treasure three times: vinyl, cassette, and CD.

My cheeks are a little pink over the mention of KISS, however. I didn't have Animalize, but I did have Dynasty. And if you really want me to out myself, I only had it for the song I Was Made for Loving You. It was a two-month phase. I got over it.

AJinDC:
Guttersnipe: Joy Division, "Substance"

Mais oui. Strain anything figuring that one out? ;P

fuzzy:
Ms. Snipe: Owns a remix of Everyday is Halloween by Ministry

I'll be goddamned. I sure do. Can you tell me my future, too, Ms. Fuzz? 'Cause you sure as hell know my past.

Mojo:
Jon, Mikey and Cherry all live in my brain and steer me about my daily life. Especially Cherry. "Mezzanine" is in my top three albums of all time.

Does that mean I can declare myself the winner of this insanity and go home now? It's in my top 10, btw.

Also, I have decided that Alice S. Fuzzybutt and grlNIN are my new best friends, whether they like it or not. We three are the female holy trinity of music. If one of us ain't got it, it ain't worth havin'.

And speaking of NINny, may I call you NINny? I have some catching up to do with her. You all just excuse us for a minute.

Now THAT is a diehard NIN fan right there folks. You really put me to shame.

You honor me, ye who is called NIN.

I am sadly, without the RHPS soundtrack. How could anyone count that CD as a Guilty Pleasure? It's delightful!

Agreed. I was afraid it would be a little too old fart-ish for you even tho I knew you'd love it deep down. But then you said...

I really do not feel like im 18 at all....

I don't feel like you are, either. And I sure as hell don't feel 38. Obviously, we must both be 28 on the inside. We did the Time Warp Again.

I'll give you a hint, think animation.

I have been agonizing over this.
The Little Mermaid soundtrack.

And yes you may call me NINny...all my friends do.

18 on the outside 28 on the inside, sounds abotu right to me and NOTHING is too old for my tastes. Good music is good music all around.

And you hit the nail deadmark on the head.

*falls over and dies. happy. at last*

Not only did I nail the guilty pleasure, I have also scaled the stone wall and made friends with NINny.

Buddy. Hug me.

It just sucks ass that this thread didn't occur before you were in DC a couple of weeks ago. When are you coming back? *taps foot*

Oh, and about that concrete blonde. I don't actually own any, but I do have "Joey" and "Caroline" on mp3. And when I'm in the right mood for it, both songs can make me cry.

Now. My house is relatively clean, thanks to Erasure and the Revolting Cocks (my other clean-the-motherfucking-house CD), and I am finally going to bed. Tomorrow I take the kids to see grandma and grandpa for a couple of days. When I return I expect this thread, and all the people involved in it, will have spiralled (downward, of course) into madness and there will be no catching up.

But that's okay. I live in Mojo's brain, Fuzzy lives in my brain, and I guessed mothergoddamnedfucking The Little Mermaid.

Just when I thought I was out...this fucking forum of creeping, fungal, painful ASS-DEATH pulls me back in.

Alice, I have two Rutles films on tape, but not the actual soundtracks, much to my regret...but I guess I'm almost there.

And to answer an old one, no actual Roxy Music albums, just 6 of their songs on various comps.

mikey, I am officially stumped. I haven't even heard of the Plunderphonics. Kudos. What do they sound like?

Tall James, I have every Elton John album up thorugh 1981...or maybe '83. Either way, I'M SET.

NIN, Kevin Smith stole my love of the Time and put it into his last film. I've loved "Purple Rain" since I was 13, and loved the Time ever since Jerome tossed that ho into the dumpster.

And I have the Burning Brides debut CD, bought from the HOT CHICK BASSIST HERSELF for nothing but a wink and kiss on the cheek after a QOTSA show. FIRST PRESS, BABY!!!

Pete, no Satriani. Too wanky for my tastes.

But I have King Diamond? I really am a loser.

I apologize for not letting this thread die, but I just hate to leave anybody hanging. So,

Superclerk, sorry, no Blue Cheer.

dcpete, sorry, no Dexy's Midnight Runners (tho I do love Come on Eileen, takes me right back to senior year)

Mikeyboy, of course I have Head on the Door. I have everything The Cure ever did until they decided to cheer up a few years ago.

Fuzzybutt, I had PIL's cassette, and now have compact disc, and I also have Happy? It's scary how well you have me pegged.

And Jafter, let me look at my notes here...
Lost Boys soundtrack, no. Purple Rain, yes. Big Chill, used to have the tape. Pretty in Pink, yes.

The Woodentops, wow! Nice, obscure, and very close guess! I don't have Giant but I do have Wooden Foot Cops on the Highway.

Shriekback, Oil & Gold, yes. You gotta love a band who can use the word parthenogenesis in a song, and even rhyme the damn thing.

Joboxers, no, Bow Wow Wow, no, and believe it or not, Big Country, no. Big Country is one of those albums I've been meaning to buy for 20 years but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Someday.

Oh, and NINny, I'm the one who has White Town.

Ugh. No. Did my Beach Boys pick hurt that bad, FUNKMAN?

mikey, I am officially stumped. I haven't even heard of the Plunderphonics. Kudos. What do they sound like?

http://www.citypaper.com/2001-06-06/music-1.jpg

It's not so much a "they". I guess I'm guilty of trying to get too obscure. A guy named John Oswald has been playing around with popular music for a number of years now. He takes the original songs, and by cutting and splicing, makes them into something recognizable, yet completely different. Re-interpreting established music, through re-recording, re-mixing, or editing has always fascinated me (which explains my cover song fixation).

Anyway, Oswald has been doing this for years. Sometimes he has been authorized, or even commissioned to do such work. Other times, his re-edits have been completely unauthorized. It came time to compile his life's work of this type in a box set, and he ran into trouble getting clearance to use many of the samples in the set. He quickly learned that it would be far too expensive to release the set as he wanted it, so plans for a legitimate release were scuttled.

Seeland, Negativland's label decided to release the box as is, without authorization. (Negativland is probably best known for having been sued by U2 for their single "U2" which consisted largely of a version of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" edited together with the infamous Casey Kasem "dog death dedication" outtakes.)

Anyway, the set is pretty cool (although it is not for everyone), and I would recommend getting a copy if you can track it down. One annoyance -- disc 2 has been mastered so that the first track on the disc is not track 1. This is fine in theory, because the original CD specs (as I understand them) allowed you to do this. However, since nobody ever did this, this spec was largely abandoned, and therefore lots of CD players will not play disc 2. Okay. Back to the game.

Edit: Forgot the link (http://www.plunderphonics.com)

Jafter, you have Business as Usual by Men at Work.

SUCKERS!

Hey Yerdaddy, you would happen to own the Obscurity Files Vol. 1 or any other cd containing Kinko the Clown, wouldya?
No, but I did have it on tapes I used to make of the show. Good times!

Kinko, Kinko, the kid-loving clown
if the kids just love me back I'll never wear a frown
Kinko, Kinko, the kid loving clown
if the kids just love me back I'll never wear a frown!!!

Kinko's in his Kinko car, pockets full of change
lots of dirty pictures and sticky candy canes.
All the kids love Kinko for the presents that they get
silly leather clothes to wear and happy cigaretts.

-Hi boys and girls, my name is Kinko the clown!!!
-Hi Kinko!!!
-And I really love you boys and girls!!!
Really, really....
-Awwww
-But my legs get tired standing out in the parking lot handing out
stale tootsie rolls to you rugrats, so if anyone wants to come back
to Kinko's trailer and massage his legs, he'd really really like it.
Really, really.....

Kinko, Kinko, the kid-loving clown
if the kids just love me back I'll never wear a frown
Kinko, Kinko, the kid loving clown
if the kids just love me back I'll never wear a frown!!!

We go to Kinkos clubhouse, sometimes after school
we play in Kinkos crawl space, there's never any room
We have to sit on Kinkos lap there's never any chairs
Kinko likes to tickle us and give us funny stares.

-Gee I haven't had this much fun since Christmas when I got
to play Santa Clause and all the boys and girls got to sit on Kinko's lap-
-Mommy mommy! Kinko hurt me!-
-But that was in Indianapolis and thanks to the liberal reciprocity laws here
Kinko can be with you boys and girls today or anytime.

Jimmy Johnson ran away and didn't say goodbuy
Kinko went to look for him to help the FBI
But Kinko has some handcuffs on his eyes were full of tears
said "I'll be back to play with you sometime in 20 years!"

Kinko, Kinko, the kid-loving clown
the parents wanna beat me up and run me outa town!
Kinko, Kinko, the kid-loving clown
tar and feather Kinko and run him out of town!

-Bye boy's and girls!!!!
-Bye Kinko! See you at the turn of the century!
-Kinko really love you boys and girls!!
Really, really....
