The video file is no longer available, due to the age.
On first glance, this occurence is unusual, and it is interesting to note that the batter, after having taken a threatening brush-off inside pitch and undoubtably suffering from the taunting trash-talk of the catcher, loses it and kicks the catcher in the face mask, causing an all-out brawl.
However, is this really all that Funny. It is actually a sad testimony to the men involved, as well as society at large. Snoogie, there are lessons to be learned from observing this behavior, what on the surface seems like a ha-ha has undertones that do not bode well for our culture.

It is interesting that you say that, Funkman.
And Reefdie will forever be Reefdie, spending more time battling his internal hatred, instead of being a nice person.

bunny, the video works, i watched it this morning, get it on avi, not Real and it should work. Brushback pitches had 0 to do.
the reason was it was the 3rd time that guy got hit by the same pitcher in the game, and i think if i got drilled 3 times in a row from fastballs, id be kicking someone too

Yes, the lesson is that you don't hit a batter 3 times in a game. The idiot ump should have thrown out the pitcher after the second beanball. I understand the kick after the 3rd time. Is the batter supposed to stand there and just keep getting beaned. He should've kicked the ump too for being inept. I believe a certain amount of violence is acceptable in sports. Especially when there is stupidity involved. And this was just plain justice!

thank you ed. Bunny look, ive played baseball, and ive been hit, and sure, that was no way for that guy to act. but at the same time, a 90 mile per hour fastball is a deadly weapon, and if someone sends 3 at my head in 3 at bats, thats called an attempt to injur, and then yes, id be heated. would i kick the catcher, no, but i understand how he could have wanted to. he shouldnt have, but its still a funny thing to watch

I said that it was a "sad testimony to the MEN involved". This includes the pitcher. And the ump. As well as, ultimately, the batter/kicker. And the fans, for that matter. Don't forget, not only is baseball a business, it is also a game, with rules. And you are right that the umpire was remiss by not warning and ejecting the perpetrator prior to the outburst.

I remember that. It was pretty smart of him to take the catcher out first. He's no longer with the Red Sox organization.

RULES bunny, the ump warned the pitcher after the second beaning, which is what he by the rules has to do before he can eject. after the 3, the pitcher would have been ejected, but the batter didnt allow the time. so the ump did follow rules, and although its technically against the rules, brawls and fighting and violence do have there place in baseball, and every sport. a pitcher hits your guy, you go hit his guy to show you protect your own. LIKE A FAMILY. you would know that if you got off your lazy ass and played a sport.
And BTW fallon, if im not mistaken, i think he went to the A's, and is either still dangling with them or is just outta baseball. he ended up gettin in like 30 pro games

I do not disagree with any of what you said, except for the part where you called me "lazy". Why would you do that, it is not nice.
Strategically, the batter was in fact thinking well by immediately going for the catcher first, so that he did not have to worry about an immediate threat from behind. However, he never did get a clear shot at the pitcher. The one who got the worst of it was the left fielder.
In any case, this is why I care little for hockey, besides the fact that unless you attend the game live, you cannot follow the durned puck.
