Am I the only one who thinks Michael Kay is the biggest dipshit ever? The guy acts like he knows everything, and he always thinks that he truly understands what's going on in the game. He makes stupid assumptions and opinionated remarks that just ruins it for me everytime I watch a Yankee game. The only time I ever enjoy listening to him speak is when Paul O'Neill is also commentating during a game and makes fun of Kay and pisses him off constantly (Paul O'Neill is the coolest. One of my favorite baseball players.)

I can't stand this guy. He acts just like he's John Sterling. He copied everything off of him.

Anyone else hate Michael Kay?

I know where you're coming from - I don't hate him, but he does annoy me from time to time. For example, a few weeks ago he was making a big deal about the huge crowd in attendance for a Monday night game against Toronto, despite the "fact" that there wasn't any promotion.

Bullshit. On that night, all tier box, tier reserved and bleachers were only $5.00. If I knew that, why didn't he?

Kay, Kaat, Singleton...as Al Dukes would say, "wee-wee-wee boring." But I do like Bobby Murcer.

I used to love to listen to Michael Kay and John Sterling together ... I have no interest in either of them individually.

The guy works for the Yankees, he should know this shit.

Why?

If he is able to know stats about players and teams and the attendance at every game, plus be able to advertise special gifts that are given out during yankee games (like stupid mugs or pins or whatever) then he should know the price for the tickets.

And Johnny (Fontane), thats exactly the kinda shit I'm talking about. Whenever he adds little tid-bits to fill in time in between at-bats and pitches, it pisses me off cuz he comments on shit that is either obvious, completely irrelevant to the game or completely false that gets on my nerves. He's such a douchebag. He tries to commentate but he sucks at it.

this guys laughing all the way to the bank, what a gig!

i listen to the radio alot on my way to work and the guy who calls them with Sterling always seems to get a little too yankeeconfident at times and it often seems to bite him in the butt...

i'm still amazed how they've allowed Sterling to call the end of a Yankee win the way he does... some may like it but i find it very childish or in your face...

I still like to listen to a game on the radio; and I agree I did like K+S when they were on WABC; and I will agree that the radio broadcasts now suck, and seperately neither does a thing for me.

But I thought they were a good pair for baseball game radio as background while I'm doing other stuff.

Sorry to deviate from the subject, but I miss Mr. Rizzuto. I always loved that story about DiMaggio's hitting streak. If he could have extended it to 57, Heinz was going to give him a million dollars. He got robbed of like 3 hits against Cleveland.

So after the game he has Rizutto stay with him in the clubhouse for a few hours until everyone is gone. DiMaggio says he wants to go for a drink, and he asks Rizutto to give him all his money (because he left his wallet in a safe in the clubhouse). So Rizutto gives him all his cash, and they start walking to the bar, and DiMaggio says no Phil, I'm going alone.

When DiMaggio was alive, the Scooter told the story in a funny way, but now he's more candid about it - the man took every dollar Phil had, money that he needed to cover his expenses for a road trip, and DiMaggio never paid him back.

DiMaggio was one weird dude. And he hated Sinatra, because Sinatra fucked Marilyn and handed her over to JFK. But I digress...

Now, now, now.

Kay is good. And Sterling is good. And for that matter, Charlie Steiner has developed into good as well.

Michael Kay's radio show on ESPN is quite good. Often pedanticly funny. And an easy listen.

Do you notice that whenever someone hits a homerun, Michael Kay says, "Seeyah!" Did he used to do that before he was on the YES station? I don't remember if he always did that, or it's something he started fairly recently. If he stole that from Ron and Fez, then that makes me hate him. I do like that Centerstage show, though.

Oh, by the way, which one's pinky?

Michael Kay has been saying "seeya" upon the occasion of a home run for many years now. It is unrelated to the Ron & Fez seeya, which is employed for an entirely different purpose.

All baseball announcers $elect a personalized phrase of their own to exclaim when a home run is observed. It might very well be that many of the statements are shared amongst several different announcers. But I would guess that there are at least one hundred. Such as:

mmm-It is high, mmm-it is far, mmm-it is gone - John Sterling
That ball is outta here - Gary Cohen
Going, going, gone
A home run
Touch 'em all, (batter's name), touch 'em all

I am sooo glad someone started this topic. This guy is a fuckin'egomaniac. When did he become an official Yankee? Didn'the used to be a newspaper reporter? What became of his journalistic integrity? Whenever I can't take Jodi Mac, I turn or this douche and can't believe my ears. Did anyone hear his call of Matsui's first homerun? verbatim THAT'S WHAT YANKEE GREATNESS IS ALL ABOUT! Ynkee fans should be ashamed of him and Sterling and their pom poms. Charlie Steiner is at least knowledgable and stable. I don't know what game those other 2 cunts are watching sometimes. Does anyone ever hear Kay talk like a tough guy? Dude, you are Not a player, you are a fat assed commmentator.

I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything, I wasn't there and if I was there I was asleep.

That ball is outta here - Gary Cohen

Best baseball moment in my life: memorized.

Mantai's 1-0... and it's a high fly ball, deep to center field, back goes finley, warning track, to the wallllll.... AND IT'S OUTTTAAA HERE!!!!! IT'S OUTAAA HERE!!! PRATT HIT IT OVER THE TRACK! FINILEY JUMPED AND HE MISSED IT!!! AND THE METS WIN THE BALL GAME!!! THE METS WIN THE BALL GAME ON A HOMERUN BY TODD PRATT!!!!!

Gary does over emphesize, but I still love him. I'd take radio over tv any day.

This is typical Micheal KAY:

Benetiz on the METS.. HE IS THE WORST PITCHER EVER
The day the Mets trade Benetiz to the YANKS.. Oh this is a great trade JOe Torre and Mel will get him to solidify the bullpen before going to Mariano.

Met Fans are saying Armando is terrible.. I really don't think there is a huge body of work to make that assumption.

A few games later.. BENITEZ is horrible he can't be any worse..
Yanks trade Benetiz.. oh Brian Cashman that was a great trade.. Armando never showed he could play in NY
----------------------------------------------------------

NEVER SHOWED HE COULD PLAY? NO S DUMBASS...
He couldn't play in Baltimore and with the METS and will never show he can close big games in SEATTLE EITHER.

I hope someday ESPN fires his ass and gives the time slot to DON LAGRECA , who had that slot before Kay came there.

Tom LeGrecca is a little too bland, stale, and has a false edge to his voice. He is so concerned that he has 3 hours to fill and is petrified that he will be at a loss of what to say.

Michael Kay is comfortable in his own skin, and he is a joy to listen to. He makes uninteresting things interesting. He is different. He is a leader. Tom LeGrecca is a follower. His voice is a put-on. He wants you to think he is angry, but in fact he is merely afraid. He wants to project confidence, instead he reveals himself to be insipid and shallow. He has had episodes of repetition, saying the same 4 sentences over and over again verbatim, to the extent that in a 17-minute period between commercials he has repeated a mantra of sameness that makes it almost entertaining.

And that's it, really. The only entertainment value listening to Tom LeGrecca is the observation of utter failure, live.
