It was his defense that won superbowls for the Bears & Jets. You're correct that he didn't have the title of "Head Coach". Would you scratch him for that? I think he belongs on the list, as does Madden and Stram. And Ryan was right to punch Kevin Gilbride for not running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would have followed him out to the parking lot.

George Siefert, Al Groh, Ray Perkins, Ray Handley, Romeo Crennel, Charlie Weis, Dan Reeves.


George Siefert is a good coach but do you think he had more impact on the game than Buddy Ryan? Siefert basically took over one of the greatest teams of all time and just let them play the style they played. He didn't change the game of football like Ryan did.

And I still can't find the Ryan/Gilbride fight but the guy kicking the catcher was great.
