There's a LOT of awful bands on that list, but even so, I wouldn't go near so far as to list them as "worst artists in music history."

WRONG!
If they put ICP why dont they put bloodhound gang? And why are there no rap artists on that list. How about Baha Men ( Who let the dogs out), or the macarana people. and creed should be number one.

And why are there no rap artists on that list.
Hate to break it to you, but ICP and Vanilla Ice made their bones raping rap up the ass and making it terrible. Arrested Development, Benzino and Master P are also, unfortunately, part of the the rap game.
Someone explain the appeal of ICP to me. No, wait, don't. If you think you can, go leap under a bus. There's no need to put the Bloodhound Gang on there because without ICP there wouldn't BE a Bloodhound Gang to horrify us all. Just go right for the source and KILL THE HYDRA.
And God bless the genius that finally realized that The Doors are THE most overrated band in history. Bad middle school creative writing class poetry fucking SUCKS no matter how much organ you bury it under. Morrison just LOOKED so much like a rock star that people were willing to gulp down his bullshit by the bucktload. And if you think I'm wrong, you're worse than Hitler.
Same goes for Live. I could never understand why they got all the hype they did when they came out, because it always just seemed like bloated faux-anthems that had nothing at the core. They happily opened the door for bands like Creed and Nickleback...thanks, dicks.
Yngwie Malmsteen
NICE.
I don't give a fuck how TECHINCALLY good this guy is, if you have absolutely NO soul when you play, you're useless as a rock 'n' roll artist. Buckethead, I'm looking at YOU.
But I'll join the throngs...how the fuck did Primus get on there?

Yeah, to whoever said it, I still love the first Arrested Development album, but the second one is easily one of the worst albums of the 90's, period. And when you only put out two albums, that kinda pulls things down REAL hard.

Any band named after a country, continent, state or city is automatically damned. You keep farting around with lists while I enjoy music free of popular opinion Mojo.
Do these lists teach us anything? No. Do they solve anything? No.
Mags have every right to publish whatever is legal, and I have the right to ignore an idea I find to be stupid.
These lists always came off as "A little too cool for the room" to me anyway. It's like every high school kid in the back of class who got ignored got together and tried to show that they actually knew something we didn't. Spare me.

Moe, you damn liar, you don't enjoy ANYTHING.
And the sad shit typing this post with over 2,000 albums does nothing BUT music. AND I enjoy being able to bust on it and break it down.
Yes, you hit everything right. Music magazines are written by socially deviant music geeks FOR socially deviant music geeks. It's what we do and what we live. We are THAT sad. It's like the only validation we get for going SO out of our way to listen to music that other people don't. It's really strange and really sad and yet we CAN'T HELP OURSELVES. But really, nobody uses these lists as any kind of "guide". At least I hope they don't. They're cleary done out of amusement for the amusement of others.
And again, you talk like you would want music magazines written by people who AREN'T music geeks. Because then all you get is "Rolling Stone" and MTV. And there's only so much of that one can take. Music magazines aren't there to "solve" anything. They're there to talk music. And if they just LIKED everything, who the fuck would read it?

Oh no, I think you misunderstood where my hatred lies. I too am a music geek of sorts. I mean, I play music in a scene so small it's hardly noticed here in the US. Just recently METAL has started to receive attention. And due to national attention, the scene has become waterd down to a certian extent. It's a double edged sword.
But hey, I love the fact that you can go enjoy a Emo-Hardcore band or some strange Bluegrass/Noise experiment. That's what makes music scenes great. Choice.
I just dislike this "List Culture" that seems to have reared it's ugly head recently. It's like our entire lives can be summed up in a list or a few hour long episodes on VH1.
Music hits everybody differently. And these sweeping generalization lists piss me off. Who says Iron Butterfly sucks that bad? I have In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Sure, I only listen to the title track but it's timeless.
I'm not a huge fan of the Doors, but who's to say they suck any more or less than Manowar? (for the record, they suck LESS! Manowar is terrible) Just because you can reach more people with your mag than I can by myself doesn't make you more right.

Exactly.
I disagree with putting groups like Live or skinny puppy in there. Those bands are at worst just inconsistent, not the worst of all time.
Hell, I don't even think Creed deserves to be on that list. Creed is just mediocre top 40 rock-pop. I know they've got a lot of heat upon them because once upon a time they dared to worship Jesus (and thus forfeit any chance of ever being considered good musicians), but one of the worst ever? I don't think so.

It's a law.
God...ANY god...cannot rock.
It's impossible. You need sex and/or drugs to complete the triumverate, and most gods are too lame to allow either. Hell, most gods frown upon strong emotions, because they supposedly lead to hate, violence, lust, sex, etc....and that's the stuff that makes great rock great! PASSION!!! And lord knows that religions HATE passion...
God cannot rock. IT'S A FACT.

50-Iron Butterfly
Who?
[hopes he's serious] The Ina-Gadda-Da-Vidda band, probably on this list for that song's five minute or so drum solo.
48-Master P
Who?
Rap entrepeneur from Louisiana. Was the southern Puffy for a while. Put a gold plated tank in his videos.
38-Nelson
Who?
Hair "metal" band whose gimmick was that it was led by the twin sons of... what, Ricky Nelson? One hit, real bad.
26-Celine Dion
Huh? Five top ten singles, more ubiquitous than christ...disagree.
Success does not always equal quality. I can't say she isn't talented in the pipes department, but the songs will never be my cup of tea.
25-Jamiroquai
...he's a megastar in Europe.
So is David Hasseloff. But I disaggree with them being on the list, too.
16-Oingo Boingo
Who?
Danny Elfman's '80s new wave band. [shrugs] I liked them.
12-Tin Machine
Who?
David Bowie's late 80s/ early 90s punk project. I seem to be their only fan.
5-Starship
Jefferson Starship?
No, just Starship. It's what they call the animated husk of Jefferson Airplane-come-Starship after the last original member was replaced. Pumped out cheesy corporate rock hits during the 80s.

It's quality to those who recieved the material and liked it and thus made the artist successful.
I stand by my statement that you don't get to be great musicians by being a bad one. Even Milli Vanilli were a cover for a group of talented soul singers and song writers. I mean, NSync may suck, but nobody denies that they can't sing and harmonize well as a group.
Just because they are popular doesn't mean they don't have talent. Talent gets you to the top but your personality and lifestyle keeps you there.
This list, I would imagine, is a list of "uncool", which bothers me, because 90% of these bands are all competent musically.

Why does everyone hate the Goo Goo DOlls and Creed so much. I like them. They are both huge top 40 bands.

39-Bob Geldof
Who?
Bob Geldof was the leader of Belfast's Boomtown Rats who had the great hit "I Don't Like Mondays" ..... then went on to organize "Band Aide," "Live Aide" & "USA for Africa" in the 1980s ..... then went on to write a classic "Great Song of Indifference"
Also got accused of contributing to Michael Hutchinsen's suicide .....
also is a knight "Sir Bob"
Why does everyone hate the Goo Goo DOlls and Creed so much. I like them. They are both huge top 40 bands.
I can't stand the goo goo dolls because they're a hack version of the replacements, and have written some of the more sappy, drekful songs of the last few years .....
Of all the pop music, I loathe Creed more than mere words can describe. The singer's a combination of a third rate Eddie Vedder with the charisma of Jim Morrison with a pinch of Bono's god complex. They turn sprituality into dreadful stadium anthems, and their videos come off as self-consumed and vain ..... And their "Behind The Music" portrayed them as shallow, dimwitted hicks devoid of any culture -- real low brow white trash .....

If Celine Dion is listed then why aren't The Carpenters?
Karen Carpenter was the "70s Celine Dion" -- great voice, shitty material.

Simple...there are too many bad artists to make a top 50 list, half of those artists and thousands more are simply tied.
I agree with Moe, why all of a sudden so man damn lists? Top 50 songs of the past 25 years, 200 greatest pop icons, 50 greatests 'Hip Hop artists'...just stop already.

Not that anyone would or shouild care but BLIND MELON is definitely one of the greatest bands of all time!! Granted "No Rain" was annoying and overplayed beyond belief but fortunately that song was not representative of their music. Most of the band hated the song too (not that I hate it, it had its moment). Musically you cannot deny the dueling guitar work of Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn.

Not to encourage this clusterfuck of a thread, but even I wouldn't call Blind Melon one of the greatest bands ever.

It is all subjective anyway. I still would consider them one of the greatest bands. Just out of curiousity, what songs from them are you familiar with besides "No Rain"??
I pretty much agree with that list. I liked Toad the Wet Sprocket, but that one song about the ocean and bones or whatever is god-awful.
The Doors? total crap
Primus? garbage
Blind Melon? one good song and everything else is terrible.. ever heard them live? puke
Bad English? nobody should be melting with those guys

An ex-gf of mine was really into them. we used to smoke out the house and she'd put on some bootlegs. Goes great with weed, but I can think of a hundred better bands.
