WHy is a good throwing arm needed in right field,

but not left? Well obviously a good arm is needed in any outfiled position, but why is a bigger deal made out of the right fielder's arm? Is it further from the plate than left field? I mean logic dictates that it's not, but for some reason it seems like it is. Even if I look at the ball field in my mind's eye, it seems like a throw from right field has to go further than a throw from left field, or am I just crazy?

It's not a longer throw to home from right field, but it is to 3rd base. Being able to hold a runner at 2nd because he respects the right fielders arm is a huge advantage.

Jesse Barfield had a great arm. He once caught a ball at the wall, spun around and threw out someone trying to go to 3rd base after tagging up.

Johnee, you proved your the dumbest ever. most batters, MLB aside, are righties, and pull to left. thats why the shitty kid in little league plays right field, dumbass. gvac and a post slightly after nailed it, you need it to hold a first bas runner from goin to 3rd on a single, and the other post sayin so the right fielder has a chance to throw a guy out at first. a pitcher was thrown at at first on a single to right field last week.
