I'm going with Dr. Strangelove. The script is brilliant and hysterical. It encapsulated the fear that the world lived with at the midpoint of the Cold War, and some of the absurd philosophies coming out of leadership circles. The cinematography and lighting is outstanding as usual, and the performances, especially from George C. Scott and the always weird Sterling Hayden, are excellent. It's a tough call between that and The Killing, but I think the presence of Slim Pickens puts the Doctor over the top. You can never go wrong with Slim Pickens in a movie.

I voted full metal jacket cuz of all the great quotes it has given us

"How can you shoot women and children?"

"It's easy, you just don't lead 'em as much"

Classic!

The shining comes in a close second.

I picked shining as well.

I'm surprised no one has picked Clockwork Orange yet.

Can you split up Full Metal Jacket since it is really 2 movies in 1. The first part is one of the best movies in history in bootcamp. The 2nd part sucks. Seen the first half about 20-30 times. Sat through the 2nd half once.

And Eyes Wide SHut is still the worst movie in cinematic history.

Paths of Glory. Kirk Douglas is great in this movie.

I'm going with "Dr. Strangelove" as well, since every other week of the year it's probably my favorite film of all time.

Hey daddy, think you would have liked it as much if Sellers had played the Pickens role as originally planned?

I like "The Shining" and all, but by the time I finally saw it, I was kinda let down by all the hype. I was expecting more psychological spookiness, and instead go too many "jump out and shock YA!!!"-scares. Oh well...the film LOOKS beautiful and Nicholson is fantastic. I'm glad I own it.

And should we have "A.I." on here? It's obvious to me how much of that film is Kubrick's and not Spielberg. Stanley would have ended it with the kid NOT "waking up".

And I never get the bashing of "Full Metal Jacket". Yes, it is two movies in one, yes the first part is miles better than the second...but I never get the people who HATE the second part. I still think it's an excellent film that has a second half that's just 75% as opposed to the first's 100%.

"A Clockwork Orange," bitchies! I love about it the masks and I love about it the part when they sing "Singing In The Rain!" Really a heart-warming moment!

Really tough call - so many classics on the list. The Shining is not one of them, though. While it is an entertaining movie, it is no where near his best film, and is really over rated and NOT scary, nor was it EVER scary. People who love horror movies often shun this movie, and rightly so. I am still annoyed with some very basic blown opportunities that Hictchcock would have screamed at. Really fucked with the best elements in one of Stephen King's best early books, imo.

I voted for Clockwork Orange, but Dr. Strangelove is almost equal. Same with Full Metal Jacket. Paths of Glory was great, too. And....Christ, tough poll!

I punched the chad for Dr. Strangelove. However, I've always thought Lolita was underrated. I prefer Stan's B&W films to his color flicks.

I would have gne with 2001 in the past but its not aged well at all, and its had a love/hate thing ever since it was released.

What was blow-you-away SFX for the time now just looks lke the matte shots they are, and as futuristic as Kubrick was, his world of 2001 still has women as not much more then servants, and fashion sense is still 1968. Some great set-pieces and the usual Kubrick stabs at humor, but it moves at the pace of a glacier. I love it; I hate it.

Paths Of Glory still blows me away
