All you Yankee haters out there, use the fact that Steinbrenner is willing to spend more than any other owner as an excuse to make yourselves feel better about rooting for a shit team. It's a smokescreen and it ends here.
Attempt to separate yourself from your petty jealousy for a moment and take some time to think about it logically. In any other business would a company be derided for hiring the best people they can afford to manufacture the best product possible? Would Rockstar Games, for example, be criticised for hiring and paying well for the best software development team they could in order to produce games superior to any of their competitors'? No, they wouldn't.
Let's say your on trial for murder, death is the penalty. Are you gonna go to the law firm of Podunk, Schlodnik and Kirkutsk who hire cheap, middle of the class graduates from Alabama Agricultural and Wingnut State? Or are you gonna go to Goldberg, Rothstein and Silverman who pay big bucks to proven success trial lawyers and suma cum laude grads from Harvard and U Penn? I think the answer is obvious.
If you don't like the Yankees, that is your right and your prerogative, but this argument is getting old. Hate them because they're the best, hate them because they have snappy uniforms, hate them because they've won more than any other team on the planet, just please give up on the payroll argument. It doesn't work.
