You would think that you would have to go out of your way to do so, especially if you're someone like me who watched a lot of TV growing up, but I've never seen an entire episode of Star Trek. It's not that I think I wouldn't like the show, but I've never been a huge sci-fi fan, and whenever I've caught the show flipping through, it's never grabbed me enough to stop and watch.
This is no big deal, I'm guessing, if you're 14 or 15, but when you're middling through your fourth decade like I am, it's a little more significant. Sure, as a pop culture obsessive, I know who the entire cast is and the names of the characters they play. I also have a general idea what Klingons and tribbles are. However, I really don't know the show.
I've also never seen an entire episode of any of the offshoot series, like Next Generation or Deep Space Nine. I have seen a couple of the movies -- the Wrath of Khan and that one with the whale.
What kind of internet nerd am I?

Can we form a club?
I've seen at least three of the films.
A couple episodes of the "Next Generation".
But never a full episode of the old one or anything after TNG. Kirk always looked weirdly greased up. Creepy.
What an awful, awful cultural phenomenon. No wonder the world hates us.

I've never seen a full episode either.
The most I've seen is 5 or 6 six minutes on TNN before Raw starts.

I commend you.
I fell in with this group of friends back after High School and these guys worshipped it. Made references to it ALL the time. Spoke in Klingon. Recited the newest movies a week after release. SCARY shit!
Then I found Evil Dead, Rabid Grannies and Re-Animator. Star WHAT?

I love Star Trek.
I'm not a trekkie who hits the cons or anything, but I like the original TV episodes, Next Generation and the 1st 4 movies. With all the bullshit that we get on our TV's, I always liked the thought provoking story lines of Trek.
But I can't stand the other series after Next Gen.

My only complaint is that the effects weren't very special on the original series.
But hey, it was the 40's for Christ sake.

I'm not a Trekkie by any stretch but I do think the original series and TNG were good shows, the effect weren't that great but it was more about storyline and characters than about anything else.

You gotta be kidding me!
Its amazing how all of us obviously come from different backgrounds and have wildly different tastes and yet find commonality in this board. It makes me wonder that there must be something that we all have in common. Fascinating

i don't know, you may be expecting a bit too much of your TV shows...
i remember watching alot of Star Trek. Kirk was cool and he kissed alot of freaky looking woman. Reminds me of myself... not the cool part, just the freaky woman...

The original was SOOOO melodramatic. I didn't really like it. There were maybe two episodes that were worth watching. I got into TNG because in 1987 I was 13 with nothing to do at night. I liked the later seasons, basically after roddenbury died. The early seasons were very hokey. DS9 too sucked at first, but got better towards the end. Voyager and Enterprise are just plain crap. Waste of time and money.

SEE?!?! What the hell is he oozing?!?
I look at the old show like I look at the old "Batman" TV series. Cheesy, dated, campy product of its time. I can watch it in THAT sense and kinda laugh at it, but that's it. Maybe I don't "get" it.
Mainly I'm annoyed by how no matter WHAT series or film, they all look like they're wearing pajamas in space. Those are NOT uniforms, dammit...they usually look like Vegas hotel workers! And the interior of TNG's ship looked a friggin' Marriot in space...all softly lit and tan with off-purple furniture. Ugh.

Ugh. For awhile, I was one of those Star Wars geeks who was so anti Star Trek. I was somehow forced into seeing First Contact in the movie theatre. I am still trying to recover from that fiasco.
