Ok here's the deal - my brother's son's first birthday's coming up - they told us that the birthday was going to be the 16th but then he sent out the invites and it's the 23rd. Although we didnt have a conflict for that day, we had reason to believe that there would be. Sure enough my mother-in-law sends out a brithday party invite for HER mother (her 100th) for the 23rd. Here's the kicker - that is her actual birthday (my nephew's is not that day but the day before). So now I'm between a rock and a hard place. I was already told that my wife and son HAVE to go to the 100th birthday - I've already said I will go to my nephew's but neither side's happy. Gotta love it. My brother's already said that the rain date will be the 24th instead - so I'm considering asking him to move the date to that (which of course tempts fate to have it rain). I am SOOO gonna get grief over this.
btw my brother lives about 30 min from me but my inlaws are 4 hours, so there's no way we could be at both on the same day.
Any comments or sympathy?

I would, but I'm still trying to figure it all out. Man, this is worse than one of those SAT math word problems. :quest:

let me try to clarify - nephew's first birthday party conflicts with wife's grandmother's 100th birthday party - no win situation

Your nephew will have plenty of more birthdays to go to, this could be the last for the grandmother. If people don't understand that then fuck em.

go to your mother-in-laws, cuz its her 100th and she may not have many more (God forbid).
that, and its your brother's son's first birthday. It's not like the kids gonna remember it anyway. He won't hold it against ya. He'll be too busy wondering whats goin on and staring at all the decorations and presents hes being given. You could always stop by the day of his birthday or sometime around there to Dr0p off a present and say hey.

well as it stands my son and wife are going to the 100th birthday, and I'm going to the first - if I can convince my brother to postpone for 1 day to the Sunday we can all make both

You're gonna need some drugs, lots of drugs to get through this one. Watch out for your MAO inhibitors and mixing booze and barbituates.
