Aaron Boone to Yankees

The Yankees got Aaron Boone from the Reds for prospects, the biggest of which Brandon Claussen, and money. They are saying on ESPN the Yankees will also get Gabe White from the Reds in another related deal.

As for other deals, Ventura is likely going to the Dodgers and the Yankees are talking about getting another outfielder, maybe Reggie Sanders.

Lyon was injured when the Sox traded him, so rather than have things get messy, they re-worked the deal.

The final deal ended up being Sauerbeck and Suppan for Freddy Sanchez. Lyon and the other pitcher traded for Sauerbeck went back to the Sox.

The Ventura to Dodgers deal is official. The Yanks got two minor leaguers in return. As well, the Gabe White deal is official. The Yankees are sending a player to be named later.

Yeah. Its not working. The Yankees have the best record in the American League, lead the Red Sox by 2.5 games, and Bernie Williams, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Nick Johnson have all missed significant time to injury. Not to mention Giambi didn't start hitting until June. And that Soriano has been cold for a month. And Jeff Weaver sucks. And they have no bullpen.

I'm really liking what the Sox have done the past couple months with the new pitching (Byung-Hyun Kim, Todd Jones, Scott Sauerbeck and Scott Williamson) they are bringing in. We needed Suppan so bad since Mendoza is such a stifff as a starter.

With that being said, I hate this deal. Clausson, a lefty, young, Yankee made pitcher gets traded for a worse fielder then we already had. I dont think Boone will do shit for us and we have an old ass pitching staff with Pettite being a free agent. They now are forced to get one of these big pitchers that are coming available at the end of the year.

Do you really expect Torre will put Benitez out there in a pressure situation if he doesn't prove himself the rest of the season? He pulled him from a game against the Red Sox last week because he fell behind 2-0 to a batter. He'd have Rivera pitch 8 2/3 innings before putting sir chokes-a-lot out there in a crunch situation in the postseason.

In any case, in the postseason I expect any time we see Benitez warming up Rivera will be right next to him, ready to come in and fix everything at the first sign of trouble.
