OK. On Saturday I had a roll with PB&J on it at like 2 PM and that was IT for the day. I just forgot to eat something. I have no other excuse. I understand that is NOT a good practice.

But anyway, at about 4 AM I was at a gas station mart and bought a sandwich. I only bought it because I remembered I hadn't eaten all day, and I should eat something. But it was at that point that I realized that I had just forgotten about eating for hours. I remember being kinda hungry about 7 PM, but for some reason I didn't do anything about it.

So my question is why or how did I stop being hungry? Did my body get tired of reminding me? I would think need for food would only increase over the hours, and make me need to eat.

Strange shit.

I go through the same periods sometimes- like saturday. I had to go to work and only had a coffee on the LIRR. Didn't have a thing the whole day at work. Got home and made a small fruit salad and the only reason I ate it was that I realized that I had not eaten all day- I wasn't hungry-dammit!!!!

Were you busy doing stuff that day?

I notice when I'm busy I won't eat as much as when I'm just sitting on the couch watching T.V. If you're bored you tend to eat more.

I think in your case it was because when you did't eat, your metabolism Dr0pped and therefore you just did't feel that hungry?

After a few days of not eating it's more likely that you'd feel not hungry because your body will go into ketosis, where it's burning your fat stores for energy rather than any carbs your eating - but that takes a whiles to start kicking in.

actually, its because your body always needs energy. so if you dont eat you get hungry. if you continue to not eat, your body burns off fat and other stored energies to make for what its not getting. Since it doesnt need energy after that, you stop feeling hungry cause your body doesnt need to eat

Yes, this is true, but your're wrong. This is what I mentioned about your body going into ketosis - however, this, as I already stated, takes a while (usually around three days, as anyone on Atkins will know) to start happening. Moe only didn't eat for the better part of a day. Ketosis is not the reason that his hunger went away.

She's right, he's wrong. Unless Moe spent the day running an ultramarathon or engaged in some similar exertion, he's not sufficiently depleted to slip into his ketosis. Rather, as TC said, his metabolism responded to skipped meals by slowing down and conserving energy, resulting in a decreased demand for calories, i.e. less hunger.

Thanks all. That makes sense.

And I was just standing and sitting around most of the day and night. It wasn't until about 1 AM that I jammed for an hour with my band. But even that didn't make me hungry and practice is a pretty large demand on my body.

To tell you the truth, I was just impressed that I forgot about food for a few hours.

But I have to admit that after I ate my roast beef sub, my stomach felt SOOOOOOOOO good. All nice and full. Mmmmmmm.
