OK nerds, help me out please cuz I'm a computer retard!

I am on the web a lot at my job and when I have free time I like to visit 'questionable' websites like this one. When I was hired the main office (I'm at a different, smaller office) told me they check websites and will flag them if visited too many times yada, yada, yada.

Well for the first 2 months or so I wasn't logging on to ANYthing I didn't want them to see but realized they aren't checking shit because they would have said something to me by now.

What I want to know is, besides the HISTORY on IE, where does the computer store web information? Like what sites I've been to and stuff like that. I'm not too worried or I wouldn't be on right now, but I'm also trying to be somewhat smart and cover my butt. So I want to erase any evidence I can. Please offer any suggestions, I appreciate it!

At the top of the internet explorer, click where it says tools. Go down to internet options, clear cookies, clear temporary internet files, and clear history. You can click settings to see what is in your temp internet folder, and you can change how much space your comp uses to save temp files.

Get to know him Well. Compliment his shoes. Buy him cologne. Buy him lunch. Eat his lunch. Toss his salad. Do whatever you can to impress him. Buy him a birthday card, weekly. Send him flowers. Every morning, present him with a half grapefruit and cottage cheese. Show him that he is The One.

There are registry settings, too. Instead of following the above advice, go to download.com and get software that will wipe cookies/temp files/IE registries.

Besides, if their IT services are any good, they probably have you going through a proxy server, so they can view info about your browsing habits remotely.

If you're worried about them looking on your computer, do what JustJon says and download a program to De1ete registry. Although, like Jon said, they can record what you do without looking on your computer.

Anyway, The computer nerd is probably a real geek with tight pants, glasses and acne, so I suggest you get him laid, and he'll like you forever for taking away his virginity.

aggie,

i have pretty much the same concern. it's from work where i do most of my posting on this board...

but my desire to post always seems to outweigh my concern. I see alot of people log into AOL Instant Messenger soon as they get in and have it up all night. So I'm thinking they will get nailed before I do.

Question for all? Can the Internet SysAdmin's determine if you are "actively" interacting with a site or can they only tell you are connected to the site and how long you are connected?

I stumbled across these folders at this location a few months back:

C:WINDOWSTemporary Internet FilesContent.IE5

That Content.IE5 folder just has countless gifs, jpegs and bitmaps and I was literally shocked at what I found. Each individual RF.net button was there and even shit I never looked at. I also downloaded Spybot from download.com and that helped quite a bit.

Kindest Regards, Your Fluff

aggie,
your tech guy might be using a keylogger to monitor everything you do- it documents everything you write, ie websites, questionable email content, etc... not much you can do, it password protected on your hard drive and he can access the information remotely.

good news is if you haven't been snagged in 2 months, they're probably just looking for bigdicks.com viewers.

As previously mentioned, you're probably going through a proxy server that records all the sites you visit. There's nothing you can do from your computer to erase this. We use a program that highlights all "questionable" sites with red text and logs them. Unless your system admin is paying close attention, I doubt ronfez.net is ringing any bells.

I once had the company computer guy call me on the phone and told me to stop typing, `cos he was about to take over the machine.

I then watched the screen do stuff by itself.

I realized that he had the capabilities to literally see the screen as I was using the computer, remotely, since he wasn't even in the building when he called me.

"Hey, good thing I wasn't looking at porn, huh?" I ask.

"Yes, especially if you're straight;" he deadpanned.

Hope he liked all those trips to consumptionjunction.com and rotten.com.

Thanks for the advice guys, like I said, I'm not too worried or I wouldn't be posting. But I guess I'll have to stop visiting BigBlackCocks.com, ::sniff:: I'll miss it there.

And Moe, stop posting pics of a random girls rack in my threads damit!! ;)

most larger places go thru a router/proxy that will log this stuff, but the logs are so huge the only way to go thru them is with a program. If the sites you are hitting isnt in their hot list it wont flag you. There is a strong possiblity that they arent looking too closely at the logs anyway.

Get to be friends with the geek - he'll watch your back (ahem or front in your case) if you're concerned.

Simple program you can aquire through a business. I used to have the same program on my computer. As long as you have eased security, or you're on the same network, it's pretty easy to control their computer. I've seen my dad do it once when he was testing somthing.

Well it all depends on how your computer is connected to the internet.

IF you are on a phone line dialing up to some ISP they can not trace anything you do.

BUT if you are on a LAN with a static IP, going through the company's router, firewall, etc, they can watch everything you do.

I am the IT manager at my office, and I can (and do, for voyeuristic purposes only) watch which sites all employes visit, and I see it in realtime on my WatchGuard Firebox III firewall.

I really don't give a shit about what they watch as long as it is during the "off-peak" hours.

And I would never report anything deamed "unmoral" to management, even under direct order. Shit I go to the same sites they do, they have even provided me with some sites I didn't know about and I now visit regularly... ;)

Peace & Hugs,
