There will be no such thing as a "PlayStation killer". No company ever just comes out of nowhere and beats the market leader. It may have nice hardware specs, but considering it probably has no third-party support nor is the company reputable, this thing will probably go the same way as that Indrema console. What's the "Indrema" you ask? Exactly.

So you think X-box hasn't even come close?

X-Box overall has been a failure. They have a few good games out there, but sales have slowed down significantly in the last year. Generally, consumers as a whole have a pretty negative image of X-Box. Secondly, MicroSoft is a company we've all heard of before X-Box. They didn't exactly come out of nowhere. The heavy amount of losses that MicroSoft has absorbed due to X-Box is a toll only MicroSoft could afford to pay off. If X-Box were made by some underground company, it would've failed long ago.

sony did. playstation burst onto a sega and nintendo dominated market. and even when nintendo released 64 it didnt do as well as playstation. and even now ps2 outsells cube.

Once again, like with X-Box, Sony did not "come out of no where" with PlayStation. Sony is a HUGE company with billions of dollars. They had the money to grab consumer and developer interest and enough money to promote their product. Also, you may not remember, but Sony was already IN the videogame industry BEFORE PlayStation. They had a game developement group called "ImageSoft" and also worked with Nintendo and played a major role in the hardware development of Super Nintendo.

But the average gamer didn't ever believe that there would be anything to take the place of nintendo and genesis.
Hey, I welcome Phantom to try and take the crown. If this thing blows PS2 out of the water with good graphics AND interesting titles, maybe i'll add it to my console list!

No way. Xbox tried this same kind of approach, and it didn't kill Playstation. Just being powerful has nothing to do with winning the console war. You have to develop a series of games that everyone loves and will buy.
In the end of it all the winner will be either Sony or Nintendo. Not Phantom or Xbox.

10 years ago we would've said sega or nintendo. things change. and im not willing to count this out til ive seen and played it. i mean the ability to play PC games on a console is an amazing starting point.

Yes Phix that's all true but fans of such franchises as Mario/Zelda/Metroid will continue to buy Nintendo systems. Fans of MGS/GTA will continue to buy Sony consoles.
So unless Phantom can deliver big series quickly they have no chance to take over the industry. And if somehow they SELL more that has nothing to do with winning a console war to real gamers. In some places Xbox outsells Gamecube, and it takes a very small minded person to say Xbox is better.

Probably large price... I'd stick with the computer, but I'd have to see what this thing's gonna look like.

The console itself is fairly pretty looking. I registered for the beta test, but won't know if I'm getting one till Sept.
As for anything killer... I haven't seen a single frame of game animation. I believe no hype.

You're gonna need broadband. It sounds like you subscribe to a service and then download the games. I don't think it will do much.

1. Its going to (probably) cost ASSLOADS
2. It wont have much (If any) game companies backing it with anything earthshattering
3. From the information given, it will probably be bulky as hell
4. Its coming in bewteen the end of an era (PS2,Gamecube, and X-Box) and hopefully soon, the beginning of a new one (PS3, X-Box 2, ???). Remember last time that happened, it was Dreamcast, hyped up, internet play, good games, decent graphics, but just came in at the wrong time. Your not going to go with a system like Phantom, from some people youve never heard of, over PS3, or another new console by someone you know is good.
