View Full Version : Bring back ECW

I say bring back ECW and take guys who used to be giants and send them back down there (Dreamer, Van Damn, Snow, etc.). Even guys like Benoit could be huge in a little federation like ECW. Instead, a guy like Lance Storm comes up here and it nothing but a dark match or laugh between two real matches. Anyone who used to watch those ECW PPVs knows how great a Van Damn main event used to be back in the day. What do you all think?

I say bring back ECW
yes, because it's jsut that simple, WWE just got the rights to the ECW tapes, so as far as seeing ECW matches, we'll only be seeing them on Confidential or on a special From The Vault DVD

i've actually thought about this and brought it up to a few people in that "industry" i know.
they should kinda make ECW the way it was... the "farm league" (even though they have OVW). and build characters there again. sit it back in the stingy little bingo hall in south philly that so many of us had once loved. give us wrestlers like "kid kash" and other guys we didnt really care for.
give paul haymen control of it and let him develop characters there. seriously, it can work. but right now, the WWF is in a financial situation and they wouldnt want to bring back something that could possibly beat their product.
because paul haymen was taken off of smackdown because he was making raw look like shit, and look what smackdown now turned into, a big pile of shit.
so give him his own little thing. give him a little budget, and build it up from the ground up again. and then, have teh "anti-wwf" people and wrestlers that we were hating the wwf. the wwf just taking wrestlers, sending wrestlers down to us... we boo the fuck out of them and heckle them so bad.
seriously. there is a possibility it can work, but they wont want to spend the money

The Goon Squad is the underground. Declaring war on everything... Declaring war on nothing. We are your children raised on ritalin and prozac, biting the hand that's reared us... pissing down our heros throats.
All we are is all you have made us...Given nothing. Taking everything. Making this world a place of our own.

The worst thing anyone could do would be to bring ECW back. It should be only in our memories of what a great promotion should be like. Yes we all wish ECW has lived on, yes we wish it could come back but the truth is, Vince has monopolized almost all of professional wrestling and there is no chance of a reformation of ECW.

Wait - ECW was a "great" promotion?
When?
What revisionist history book are you reading?

Okay, Se7en, I'm not one to judege, and I know that usually you and me are on the same level when it comes to wrestling, but please tell me why you don't think that ECW was a great promotion?
By the way, I think that it never should be brought back because there is no way to make it what it once was.

I think they, in general, had bad matches and bad storylines.
Their best storyline was the Raven / Dreamer feud, but that peaked YEARS before the promotion folded and they never did anything to top it.
Plus Heyman pushed guys who I feel are bad workers, such as Justin Credible and the Dudleys.
I used to have wear rose-colored glasses when it came to ECW, but lately I've been reviewing a lot of old wrestling tapes of mine on which I taped many an ECW match.......and I realized how badly they sucked. Unless the matches involved someone like RVD or Jerry Lynn or Steve Corino, they weren't that great. Watching the Gangstas brawl all over the arena with the Dudleys is okay the first time I saw it, not the 49th.
I'm sorry, I know a lot of people liked the attitude of ECW, and I do think Heyman is a talented guy, and ECW IS responsible for the WWE's success (the entire "Attitude" era was essentially ripped off from Heyman), but IMO, ECW, viewed in posterity, shouldn't be remembered in the same reverential tones reserved for defunct promotions such as WCW (for example).

ECW was and will always be known as the most revolutionary wrestling company. no one else would try the things they tried and since then everyone has copied them. Sure they made alot of bad decisions but for you to say the Dudley Boys are bad workers, that's just ludicrus. If that was the case, they wouldn't have lost so much weight and became one of the best tag teams ever. If they were bad workers, Bubba would still weigh close to 400 pounds and be horrible in the ring.
