1. at a friends suggestion I just replaced the bridge position pickup from a Lace Sensor to a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail, on my Strat. My ear is not the greatest and i don't hear a big difference. anybody ever do this?
2. anybody know an available frontman or frontlady to sing music like Sabbath, Grand Funk, Seven Mary Three, Kinks, ZZ Top, Neil Young, others. In the central to south jersey area?
3. Laney Heads and Cabinets - don't seem to be the popular brand but our drummer bought 1 used 100watt, 1 new 100watt, and the lead guitarist bought a used 100watt. They love e'm and i play through one and it sounds good. Drummer and lead guitarist are really into Sabbath and they say this is what Tony Iommi(?) used. Anyone ever use them and what do you think?

My buddy had a Laney cabinet. It had a pretty good sound.

1. The Lace Sensor and the Hot Rail pickups are very similar in output and impedence, that is why you don't hear much of a difference. The most you'll hear is a little more crunch at high distortion levels with the Duncan. If it sounds weaker, make sure that the new pickup is wired properly and not out of phase.
3. I had a Laney head and cab that I used for a while. The clean channel was good, but the crunch was crap. The only way to make it sound good was to beef it up with a distortion pedal. I sold it en-route to my favorite amp ever, the Peavy 5150. Keep in mind that the Sabbath sound was the result of massive amounts of power, and vinatge equipment (new at the time).

Thanks for the input guys.
> i did mix the wires up the first time with some unclear instructions from my friend. He said keep the red and white together, so i soldered them both to the volume. I made the black hot(switch) and grounded the green. Something didn't seem right so i called the music store where i purchased it the day before, it was:
red/white together but "soldered to nothing" just insulated
black - ground
green - hot
PEAVEY 5150 - have to say I'm jealous
:)
if you're gonna rock, rock with the best. When i got to see Grand Funk in 97/98 on their reunion tour, Mark Farner played through a couple of these with a Parker Fly, have to say it sounded GREAT! I have Peavey 4/10 70 Watt Combo(not even close to 5150), but I Love It. The pedal to switch between Crunch and Clean is nice. Especially on songs like Closer to Home and Creep....
And i'm still on the fence with the Laney. I have the Boss effect pedal with the volume control pedal and what seems to be an endless amount of distortions. I'll have to see what effect fits.
Thanks Again!!!

Yeah, that's a cool amp. I got mine in high school, along with the Music Man EVH guitar, and played the hell out of them. They are both in retirement now, as they are getting to be more valuable then my car. I've ramped my stage rig down to a couple of Gretsch's, and a 2x10 Fender combo. I let the sound guy worry about the volume.
Whatever amp you decide on, good luck!
