I understand that your body will tell you when it is hungry or thirsty but does it tell you when it needs specific things like sugar or salt.

I'm sure everyone gets the craving for something salty or something sweet, like i do. And sometimes i think my body is telling me it needs some salt or sugar, but then i think it's more of a "craving" than a need. Like after dinner, i almost always get a craving for something sweet.

So, will your body ever tell you it needs something more specific than food or water? Or is it just in your mind?

I hear that pregnant women crave strage things that their bodys need. My sister had cravings for starch for some reason. Im sure there are things that we need that we begin craving. For me, its pussy, but I dont know why I always seem to need it so bad :p

Although I've read about particular incidents where a person w/a calcium deficiency will eat something w/calcium in it that's not ordinarily considered food (chalk - if my recollection is correct), I don't think the body ordinarily recognizes a potassium defficiency for example and causes a craving for bannanas.

Hunger causes cravings. However, many people (in America at least) don't eat b/c they're hungry, but rather for comfort, habit, boredom, etc.
