my family doesn't like it when i do my exercises at night. they always tell me that its better to exercise in the morning because when ur done exercising you have a lot of energy during the day.
now I've been exercising practically every day (or night, rather) for the past 2 years or so (not excessively. just as a routine. and its usually no longer than an hour a day. its mostly push-ups and sit-ups. running mostly occurs when i go skateboarding with my friends. sometimes i do some lifting too).
i wanna know if, since i exercise at night, i might actually lose muscle mass because i basically sit on my ass and watch tv when im done until around 3 in the morning or so (my exercising hours are between 10-12), and then i go to sleep. i always figured that since i'm used to exercising at night, my body wouldn't lose any muscle mass at all. but lately i'm not sure. just wanted to know.
thanks ahead of time for all the answers i get.

I used to go out with a fitness instructor and she would tell me that it didn't matter what time of day you worked out, so long as you actually did work out. If you're doing anything physical at an hour of the day that you normally don't you will likely feel sore the next day, unless you did it often enough. Your body will then eventually adjust. I believe that if you're working out at night and you're feeling fine the next day, than you've already adjusted. If you continue with what you're doing and watch what you eat, you will eventually begin to the see the results.
In your case you're looking to keep your muscle mass, I'm not an expert on this but I think you'll be okay and will have energy you need at night if you're body had adjusted to working out at those hours. I'm no expert but I've heard that from a couple of people and have read it in magazines as well. I've read of people like cops or fire fighters, EMS who work odd hours have the same questions and have always read that you're body adjusts eventually if you do the exercises often enough.

Alright heres why the time of day is important : metobolism. After you work out your body burns energy at an elevated level for a certain amount of time. Now after this time following the workout has passed, your body begins to repair the muscles that were used. If you work out in the morning the daytime is when your metobolism is lifted and nighttime is when your muscles will recoup, ideal since youll be sleeping. If you workout at night your metabolism is lifted when you sleep and you muscles recoup during the day, which depending on the type of work you do, may not be ideal for recovery.

I do my walks in the night and sometimes in the morning. I like excercising at night because it helps me to unwind and in the morning so it gets me ready for the day. Anytime is good. Your family is probably worried for your safety.

i always exercise at night (or early evening when i run in the park.) i just can't get up enough energy to do it in the mornng. i have heard that because your sugar levels are lower in the morning, you will be more likely to burn fat when you exercise in the morning. but for me, it is either run in the afternon/evening or no run at all.

You won't lose muscle mass just sitting and watchign tv. It takes way more laziness than that. As long as you continue to exercise, you really don't need to worry about that.

I like to exercise at night, too! I jump up and down and wait behind the garage for nocturnal animals to come out so that I can spray them with the hose. Then I take little towels and I dry them off and send them on their way! Exorcise!
