I noticed a bunch of us are
writing posts about being
depressed. We all think
everyone is happy. So I
ask.... What percentage of the
time when you are by YOURSELF
are you happy? If you live
with someone then tell the
perecentage when you are home.
I am very interested at the
answer to this
question!!!

I don't think I'm so depressed as much as I am incredibly discontnt with life and emotionless. It's not like my life is all roses but it's not as if I'm suicidal- it's more like there's nothing, a chronic boredom and monotony that stretches across my days and will into college and more so into the business world. I am more tahn expecting to be a 9-5 worthless cubicle dweller doing stuff that will mean nothing to anyone.
I guess I'd say I'm happy like 20-25% of the time. it doesn't mean depressed though.

About 18 percent of the time I'm happy. The rest I'm just sleepy.

The question is meaningless unless you can define the state of being "happy."

In all honesty, I've been so damned confused lately I couldn't even tell you whether or not I was happy. I seem to be thinking about 17 different things at once lately, and my head is spinning.

I think IkeaBoy is an Anarchist in the making. Too many watchings of Fight Club.
I myself would say 90%. I'm generally a cheery person except when I have to bury the bodies.
I will get a sig pic...eventually

There has to be some general consensus or the comparative percentages are meaningless.
Do you feel that happyness is
1. The lack of sadness
2. The opposite of sadness
3. An utterly different emotional state, unique to each individual.
4. Too amorphous to be qualified or quantified
5. A warm puppy

Dude, that is a downer. Why do you think you'll be stuck behind a desk pushing paper and pixels in some meaningless job? Isn't there something you would rather be doing?
I think the only way to be happy is to go after something you're interested in. If you really love your work, you can get by on whatever you make and (relative) success will follow.
I hope anyone disgusted my optimism isn't too closed-minded to at least consider the concept of happiness-in-work for a moment. Look at Horde King! He's doing the second career thing and seems to be lovin' it! Go Horde King!
BTW, I'd say I'm happy about 75% of the time when I'm by myself (this represents a vast improvement over recent years -- I'm just learning to be alone).

The commercial about clinical depression kind of rings a bell.

Knowing that your work is meaningful and helps people is a source of happiness to me, as are my wife, kids and friends.
The way you approach life in general can make you happy or sad. Life happens. Shit happens. A healthy attitude can make a big difference. Life can throw you some real curves that you often cannot do anything about. The only thing you can change is your feelings about it.
