View Full Version : Im in a sticky situation thats ALL my fault
to start off, I had an appartment that in June I told my landlord that Im moving out. I havent really lived there for over 3 months since I kinda snuck back into my parents house. Now I know they have been suspicious of why Im at the house 24/7 and Im still supoosedly paying rent at this place around the block.
A few nights ago I got into an altercation with my wondefull Stepmother. She LOVES to attack people, especially me at the dinner table and especally after shes has a rough day of sitting on her ass playing freecell on the computer, and before dinner shes GOTTA have a few drinks to put her in attack mode. So bassicaly I gave in to her attacks leaving the dinner tanle cursing under my breath at her. Now here's were I went wrong. I was so mad I came in and said "Im gonna be truthfull right about her Wendy, STOP DRINKING!!!!" and then walked back outside.
Now yea I know that was the wrong thing to say but you know I truely believe that waht I said came from my heart rather than my ass if you kow what I mean. Cause every time she drinks she gets in that mode and its not only me who notices it.
SO now my father tells me that he wants me to go back to my place for about a week and "think about things" So Now I know there is noone living at my old place casue its a dump without a kitchen. And I now have to probably offer like 300 something dollard to live there for a few days UNLESS I can BEG to make things better at my parents house.

i think if you really believe its the drinking, you have to sit down when the 2 of you are both calm and talk about it. i think you need to be honest and forthright, but the way you did was not the right one. apologize for that but then sit down and seriously just put it to her just how you feel

What was this arguement about? I'll venture a guess and say it's about you living in the house, period, or maybe she thinks you should be paying.
"think about things"
Those "things" he may want you to think about is staying at your apartment.
If this was about you being in the house, you really have no right to say what you did because your comments become more retaliatory (or meant to hurt) because you know shes right. Now weather she has a drinking problem or not doesnt really matter since your delema is about where you will live now. The answer is your apartment. If theres no kitchen then tough shit, order out, you probally dont cook anyway. If you do cook then tough shit again. I'll guess you have money to wear the clothes you want and go out when you want to so it might be time to grow up and act like adult and put that money into whatever you need to live on your own.

You should have been quicker. As soon as she pissed you off you could have turned it around and said "You been drinkin girl? That's crazy talk" and made a joke about it. A passive way to get your point across AND your digs in while smiling. Hidden sarcasm is a great thing.

Its (from what i am gathering) his Fathers household. Even so the Father and stepmother both have a say in the decision making but i don't think it is quite fair that you call her out on something so obvious to the rest of the family only to be asked to leave. It sounds like your Father is inbetween a rock and a hard place on this one, no parent ever wants to have to throw their child out of the house, no matter what the age.
I think Snoogans is right, i think the whole family should sit down and have a discussion on the matter. Don't be spiteful to your stepmother maybe she is going through some things of her own?...anyhow anger wouldnt solve a problem liek this one especially when youre dealign with someone who appears to have an alcohol problem.

If you're worried that you got no place to live--tough shit! It's your fault now suffer the consequences of your actions. You should have told them about your predicament in the 1st place.
If you're truly concerned about the drinking problem of your step-mother-- express your concerns to the rest of the family members in the household in order to facilitate and encourage her to seek the proper care/help that she may need. (It's not going to be easy).
Ron and Fez need YOU...to be the #1 thread on this board!!

First, why are you paying rent somewhere and living at home?
Second, was the argument that she was being critical of you paying rent somewhere and still living at home?
I have found that sometimes people try and get you to come out from being under the wing by forcing you into an uncomfortable situation, maybe thats what it was all about.

1] You should have been honest with your dad about the apt.
2] Don't give the stepmother ammo.
3]Go to your dad, lay it all out about the apt. and your feelings about the stepmom. You don't have to grovel so much as be honest.
4] Go to work on either getting the same apt. back or finding a new one.

when i was 9 my Dad made a comment that his mother-in-law drank too much... innocently i passed that on to my Grandmother...
oh man was she pissed...
like others said, sit down with them and have a civil conversation. apologize to your step-mom(even though you meant what you said) your message has already been delivered and it's up to them on how they act upon it in the future...
oh yeah, and stop fucking up!

Why don't you ask that guy who went to the softball game with you to pick you up and drive you to Suffolk county. With his driving abilities, it will take you about 4 days to get here. Then, turn around and go back to Merrick, and it will be the week that you had to take a break.

These situations are typically not the sole "fault" of one person (like your stepmom). This is a family problem and as such the best option is to get the whole family into family therapy.
If that's not possible, (ofen one or more family members resist) you have to tread very carefully. A family discussion can be constructive, but if can also be very destructive if the family isn't able to talk through the problems.
Consider talking to your father first (if you have a good relationship with him). Ask him if he feels he has to side with your stepmother or if he actually supports what she says. Ask if your stepmother feels threatened with you in the house, as if you were taking your dad's attention away from her. Ask if he has considered your side at all. You know your family better than anyone here and you have to be very careful how you handle things.
A family therapist is still the best bet.

Listen I dont believe for a second he has any real concern for this drinking problem his stepmom may or may not have. The fact that he shouted that she drinks too much is probally just because she was spewing some pretty real shit and he knew she was right, was mad about it, and had nothing else to comeback with. You shouldnt need to tread carefully, since you shouldnt be living in the house in the first place.

Living with a stepmom sucks. So does living with an alcoholic. I've been in a similar situation. My advice is to get out of there and take all of your stuff with you even if you have to throw it out. Sounds like that apartment you were at wasn't entirely comfortable either so find a place you'll like enough so that you won't want to go back home anymore. Bum around at a friend's place until you find it.

when i'm in a sticky situation i just change my bed sheets, seems to do the trick.
SO I asked my two stepbrothers to come to my defence last night and talk to my father. So I asked the youngest of the two today what happeded. He said he doesnt remember. He just remembers that his brother kihnda ratted me out by saying I dont have an appartment anymore. So now Im really screwed cant wait to see what happens when my pops comes home
