I was just looking over some of my old calvin and hobbes collections, and realized how much that comic strip ruled!! So many great moments...

-locking Suzie Derkins in the closet

-waking up mom in the middle of the night to ask if people had spores

-Hobbes fascination with smocks...

-Calvin's tactics of avoiding getting tackled at the door...

-adventures with Rosalyn the baby sitter

-CalvinBall

-the Noodle Incident

I remember looking at where calvin lived, and all the woods and trails and stuff around where he lived and wishing I could live there...

the best one was when he protested the C grade that was brought with his 75, because 75% in any political event or sporting vote would be a stellar landslide victory and should be rewarded with an A

I liked the one with the box where calvin made a clone, then the clone made clones, so there were like 7 calvins going around..and he ended up having to turn them into worms...

the one where he made a snowman that looked like the family car ran it over, and there was a crowd of snowmen standing around looking shocked - the dad mentions something about the kid needing therapy - RULES!

Bill Watterson was the Wes Anderson of the funny pages.

Untouchable. Unbeatable. Unbearably perfect.

Calvin and Hobbes rocks!

My favorite ones are when he tells his dad that he's down in the polls.

My new FAVE comic is Get Fuzzy. (http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/getfuzzy/index.html)

Check it out. It makes me think of my cat Lloyd (the one who gave me a staph infection).

I just wish they hadn't ruined Calvin's image by having him pee on random logos on the backs of people's trucks...I gotta think thats going on behind Watterson's back...but how does he stop it?

We're having whole generations grow up with their only knowlege of one of the best newspaper comic strips ever as "the kid peeing on the Ford logo on Uncle-So-and-So's truck"

I love Calvin and Hobbes. I am suprised he never put out a line of Calvin and Hobbes stuffed animals, he would have made a mint.

Radio Psychic -- Ron and Fez top 3 by the end of 2003.

don't forget about the eternal wit found on frat guy event t-shirts. "take me drunk, i'm home." ho ho, now that's classic.

yeah mojo pretty much nailed this one.

watterson was totally against all types of commercialism. if you ever see a t-shirt, a mug, a sticker, or anything, it wasn't made by bill watterson. he could have made a ton of money selling out but he never did.

if only there were people around who were still that true to their work.

What fatty said.

Watterson never once signed any kind of merchandising deal except for the book collections, and he was BOMBARDED with shirt, toys and TV offers. The guy quietly stuck to what he loved, the strip, and it showed.

It's cool everyone loves it, but the stuff posted here isn't what made me love the strip. The last five years of especially, Watterson infused such a beautiful humanity into the characters, and it made it a joy to read each day. That, and the guy was a hell of a watercolor painter. Just check those fall landscapes he created in the later books.

The beauty of the strip (one of the best ever) was that it perfectly captured the mindset of a 6 year old (from the perspective of the frustrations of the parents dealing with him).

PLEASE READ TO ME, HAMSTER HUEY AND THE GOOEY KABLOOEY!

Make sure you do the Happy Hamster Hop...

I remember once when his Pops was tired of reading Hamster Huey, he changed the ending so Hamster Huey was killed....

And to think, originally Calvin didn't even want to be read to until his dad broke out Hamster Huey..

My favorite was The Transmogrifier, where we all learned (either here or the cloning box) that Scientific Progress goes Boink.

I still have the last strip to run in the paper cut out and sitting in my desk drawer.
