Why is gas cheaper on the East Coast than the West

Everytime one of my relatives come here from the West coast, they all comment to the effect of, "Wow Gas is cheap here." How come gas is cheaper over here than in the West coast? Just wondering. Thanks.

I was just on a trip to Canada and gas was expensive as shit up there. .795› a Litre? Thats ridiculous! Turns out to about $3.00 US.

Specifically in the case of California, they have lots of environmental for gas that drive up the price. They have to process gas in more expensive ways to reduce emissions. I'm sure there are other factors as well.

Eh, it's not just all the way out west, it's the Midwest, too. Every time I go home to Chicago, gas is usually almost $.50 higher there than whatever it currently is here in DC.

I think the east coast gets rebates (or whatever they're called) too because in general, the densely populated cities do a good job of reducing the number of vehicles on the road with public transportation.

It partly also has to do with the fact that where most of the Oil we use comes from is closer to the east coast. it may not seem like a big deal but im sure its a hell of alot cheaper to bring it straight to a place like newark then to loop all the way around and Dr0p it in Cali or drive it there from here
