When I think of Sushi I think of it as a Japanese dish. But I've noticed that at several Chinese Restaurants/Buffets they also make sushi too. I don't eat sushi, so I want to know what other people think about this. Is the sushi good or is it of lesser quality. Is there a difference?

I tried some at a Chinese buffet once. It sucked, then someone told me that they'd never give the good stuff to you on a buffet, and that made sense.
I think they were more veggie things instead of fish or something. All I know is they sucked and I didn't try them next time.

sushi is disgusting and not because of the fish, the texture of it is what got me, i couldnt take that it was crunchy and soft at the same time, i dont know why that happened to me but im never going back to it.

At a friends birthday party there was a Sushi bar. Now i am a picky eater and i am rarely open to new types of food but somehow i was convinced to try it. My friend had picked my poison and ordered "Californian Sushi" for me. The appearance alone should have made me change my mind but i didn't want to waste the money i had spent on it. My first bite quite literally sent my stomach into waves and my throat closed off. I struggled to get it down as i was gagging unnoticeably at the table. Only after i managed to forcefeed myself two rolls of it did i ask the question: "What's in this?" to my horror...."Crab" i am semi-allergic to crab and i almost ran to the bathroom to make myself heave it up. I immediately gave the remainder of the Sushi away.
What i learned that day: don't try new foods.

The only time I've gotten Sushi outside an authentic Japanese restaurant was at a restaurant over here called Tofu that offered combo of Japanese and Chinese dishes, it was pretty good.
But I would never get it at a buffet. Though I rarely order sushi.

never had sushi and don't plan on trying... i'll stick with the raw clams and oysters... and i don't care for Chinese Buffets, to me it's like grazing cattle eating as much as they can so they can get "alot" more than their moneys worth...
was that too harsh, sorry...

No.
Who am I kidding I do half price sushi at ESG all the time. I'd never do a buffet.
The crab in a california roll is not crab. It is pressed pollock/haddock flavored like crab.

i went to my cousins wedding a few months back and they had the "imitation crabmeat" in a cream sauce, during the cocktail hour. My cousin's daughter who is around 18 or 19 picked up a piece and before eating it said to everyone at the table "this is lobster"... i didn't feel like making her look a little foolish and let her enjoy it...
i have to admit, when it's very fresh it tastes delicious but it bugs me when they don't advertise it as what it really is...

i have. once. it was disgusting and rubbery, and i won't make that mistake again.
that said, i love sushi, and i'm having some trouble processing all this sushi related negativity. it's just un-american.
