I don't have on of these selectors in my Ford Escort Wagon. (Woah ladies! One at a time!)
So anyway, I can't select if I want to recycle my air or get fresh, so what do I have by default? Is it always fresh or always recycled?
Thanks bunches.

its fresh air moe. all the air comes from outside, recycled air only helps with AC cause it recycles colder and colder air. so its no big deal

Moe, your car probably has a "Normal" and "Max" option for the AC. The "Normal" will use outside air whereas the "Max" will use air from the inside.
On a hot day, it's best to start with the AC in the Normal position because chances are the outside air is cooler than the air inside a sealed up car. Once it begins cooling, switching to Max will make the AC work more efficiently because the air being drawn into the system is already cool.

Good call Gvac!
I have a button to turn on my A/C, and I guess it draws in outside air no matter what setting I leave it on. Panel or Defrost would just draw in fresh air. But when I slide the selector to max air, that must be when it closes the intake off and I start to recycle the air in my car.
Thanks man. That actually makes sense.

Of course the only caveat I would add to that is that I always leave mine on recycle during allergy season because otherwise too much pollen gets sucked into my car. I don't ordinarily have allergies, but sometimes in the spring I get them when I get in my car!

Moe, you'll hear an increase in the volume the AC makes when you put it on recycle.
I almost always leave it on recycle, so fresh air can enter the car. Of course, the recycle button or lever does come in handy when driving near a dump
BTW, since the AC has to work the hardest to initially cool the car, your best bet is to open all the windows and drive around for a few minutes before putting the AC on. The car will be cooler then.

Its all good to have recycled with AC but if you leave it on any other time your car gets all fogged up. My Drivers ED teacher told us to only put the AC on when your driving over 45 mph. Then AC after that, to maximize mpg. But he was a nut, oh well.
