What is the benefit of the media going so far out of it's way to broadcast the fact that there will be less security on July 4th (today)?

I see it all over the news, on various news websites, Yahoo! News has the headline reading like this "Less Security Planned as U.S. Prepares to Celebrate Independence Day " (http://story.news.yahoo.com/fc?cid=34&tmpl=fc&in=US&cat=4th_of_July)

Why are we interested in telling everyone in the world that we won't be as secure? Last I checked we're technically still at war, we have terrorists who will stop at nothing to cause a major catastrophe, etc...

Especially when we learned that people like Bin Laden listen very closely to news reports to catch flaws and lapses in certain areas for the purpose of capitalizing on our weaknesses. It doesn't make sense to me that we need to tell the world every little thing about us. Maybe I'm being paranoid about it, but I just don't want to see something really bad happen like 9/11, we don't need more people to die unnecessarily.

Here's a headine I found on ABC News's website...
ABC News: Fourth of July Security May Be More Muted (http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20030704_316.html)

I don't have an issue if they tone down the security, just the fact that we go out of our way to let everyone know we're doing it.
