View Full Version : When did trampolines disappear?

When I was a kid in the 70s, every elementary school had a huge trampoline/deathtrap. Now, of course, they're all gone. Presumably this is due to the dangers inherent in such a piece of equipment and (to a lesser degree) the high cost of insurance. Does anybody have any idea when exactly the trampolines started to disappear?

I remember them too, as well as ropes you had to shimmy up and down. I think it was around Carter that they started thinking about liability.
But thats just my opinion

You answered your own question - Lawyers. The Simpsons had an interesting episode about Homer getting a free trampoline from Krusty.

Actually, my neighbor got one for his kids. They also sell a safety net that will totally surround the trampoline like a cage. Optional of course.

To clarify, I'm asking when they started taking them out of schools.

We have 3 trampolines in my school, and two of my friends have huge ones in their backyards. I love going on the trampoline still!

My uncle got his head caught between the spring of a trampoline. Funny as hell, but it damn near killed him so the school district did away with them. That was in about 1965 or so.
