"Through its actions and inactions, Viacom has let the once proud Star Trek franchise stagnate and decay," the company said in a statement. "Viacom has released only one Star Trek movie since entering into agreement with Activision and has recently informed Activision it has no current plans for further Star Trek films."

Patrick Stewart was recently quoted that there probably will not be another Star Trek film. At least with the Next Generation crew. Too bad. I'm a fan of the films and I thought "Nemesis" was a kick ass film.

next generation should be laid to rest...let's see some other star trek stories being told...i would love to see something done with the "elite forces" aspect of the franchise...star trek marines on missions...

Making a movie out a video game? It'll never work.

Or Section 31.
that's a great idea...combine elite forces with section 31...perhaps the elite forces ARE section 31...im interested in how the federation maintains the peace...there has to be an extensive network of spies and informants...the potential for storylines is unlimited...

I always hoped they would make a movie with Q. Although that too would be to obscure for the mainstream, the possibilities there would be endless as well.

A big reason why DSN, Voyager and Enterprise are nowhere near as good as TNG: little to none Q appearances.

I commented on this idea before. The producers had kicked this around before but decided against it. The problem with Star Trek is in it's overplayed formula: Captain, Starship. The Elite Force concept allows for a variety of ships, stations, locations, and missions with a core group that can be easily modified. I don't see why this wouldn't work. Don't just make it "marines", but more rounded-out. I would watch it. I haven't watched Enterprise since the 2nd episode.

I agree...i need more interaction with species...some of the best star trek were episodes that took place on land and involved spying (ie when data and picard dressed up like romulans to seek out spock)

Voyager had a few Q appearances. Didn't stop the show from sucking.

Alright, then it's agreed. We'll get together and start on a script treatment. I'll bring the beer, you bring the tricorder.

Voyager only served to ruin the Q character.
Personally, I would like a Q movie to finish the Next Gen series of films. It would be appropriate - he was always the most dangerous, and arguably the most popular, of the TNG villains (at least, he was Picard's true foil).
I have no clue what they'll do for future Trek movies, but I'd say that their best bet (outside of one more TNG film) is to just go with an entirely new cast & crew & concept.

Is the Captain a member of the proud <b>2%</b>?
I was thinking that basing the next movie on this ST:TNG epsiode "Conspiracy" (http://www.startrek.com/library/tng_episodes/episodes_tng_detail_68356.asp) would be a great way to involve the TNG/DSN/Voyager crews, Section 31 and Elite Forces. The ending of that episode allowed for a lot of possibilities.

I was reminded of this thread as I watched "City on the Edge of Forever" (quite possibly the best Original Series episode) last night. With all the themes of time travel, temporal anomolies, preserving history: why hasn't "The Guardian of Forever" been used more? (They did do an animated episode about it, yes) You'd think the Federation would want to quarantine this planet lest someone use it to alter history.
Shatner was right -- I need to "get a life."
