View Full Version : How long before I start calling her "Aggie"?

OK, this is the deal: there is new girl joining my team at work tomorrow. Her name is Agnes. I did not meet her ; they interviewed her while I was on vacation.
They showed me her resume, and I have reason to believe that she may be hot. She's a recent college graduate and it appears that she was an aerobics instructor (or something like that).
Since I'm her supervisor, I must resist the temptation to be too friendly & familiar (which sucks).
On another note, I'm not as thrilled as you might expect about having a hot girl on my team. Some (not all, but some) hot girls go through life with a sense of entitlement. I don't need any more headaches at work.
But who knows, let's wait & see. In any event, I must resist the temptation to call her Aggie.
(P.S., yes, I know, Aggie is not named Agnes, it's a Texas thing...)

I dunno. Maybe as soon as she says, "call me Aggie". Thats usually how it works.

What do you call her if she says "Drop dead, Creep"??????
Before I start getting bashed for being some sort of lascivious creep, let me begin by saying that I'm not.
I just went through a difficult experience working with a spoiled brat for the past year. A brat who came to work late every day. A brat who was always trying to get over. A brat who couldn't spend two consecutive minutes at her desk. A brat who thought she was too cool for a boring job that so many people in this day and age would die for. A brat who could have (and should have) been terminated for things she said and did.
But this brat was not fired, because the creep writing this post was too soft-hearted to let her go.
My morbidly obese boss afforded her privileges that were not afforded to other employees...privileges that ultimately made more work for me.
So the bottom line is this: I don't want a repeat performance of this nonsense.

Johnny,
Since you're going to be her supervisor, couldn't you lay down the law from day 1? I have been a supervisor in the past and whenever I got a new employee, I always had a heart-to-heart with them and let them know right from the beginning what I expected from them and sometimes more importantly, what I don't expect from them. Good luck with her!!!

Good luck with her!!!
Thanks, Reeshy. I'm optimistic that things will work out fine. I don't want to deal with another diva.
As you know, being a supervisor means having to be the "bad guy." My morbidly obese boss pressured me to give her the performance review she deserved for 2002: "Good/Needs Improvement." This review afforded her the same merit increase that employees with better performance earned.
Suffice it to say that she was not happy with her review. She became more petulant than ever. When she threatened to quit, my morbidly obese boss told her that she was a definite candidate for a promotion. Unbelievable.
So the good news for me is that when she was passed up for that promotion, she did quit, so she's out of my life.
I learned a lot about my boss (and office politics in general) from this experience.
