why do I/people sweat when I/they fall asleep

so i took a little nap today...when i went to sleep i was perfectly fine but then upon awakening i found myself drenched in sweat....what is the reason for this and does it happen to other people?

I think it has something to do with breathing...

Like if your airway gets clogged based on how you're sleeping, the heart has to work faster when you're asleep so the strain causes you to sweat.

The only time I've noticed I sweat when I sleep is if I'm taking a nap on the couch still fully dressed, and only then it's just right around my neck.

And when you sleep for the night, your body's core temperature actually drops for like 2-4 hours in the middle of the night. How does anyone sweat THEN?

Are you on any medication? I used to get horrible night sweats when I was on Paxil.

This happens to me to, but I think it's because
1. I live in the south and it's friggin hot here now my AC is constantly running and I have big windows in my bedroom.
2. I have a down featherbed on top of my mattress
3. I like to snuggle under big blankets and keep my ceiling fan on

So I wake up sometimes with a little sweat on my forehead or lower back. Being in between the comforter and the featherbed can get pretty toasty.

Maybe you are just hot.
If I put my AC on the energy saver thing and i take a nap sometimes I wake up sweaty because the AC turns off every now and then and doesnt really cool the room.

It probably just has something to do with the blazing hot weather.

Sweaty sleeps are the best. I only have, like, one a year. I always wake up far more refreshed than I usually do.

maybe you just answered the question....isn't sweat a cooling agent? If so, then maybe your body is attempting to cool itself off by sweating..then you awake to a moist neck or back
