Drudge:
From the wilco mail list.
Due to an unfortunate personal situation beyond their control, Sonic Youth will not perform tonight at the FleetBoston Pavilion nor tomorrow at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, CT.
The shows will go on and WILCO will perform a full set each night. We're pleased to report that Mission of Burma will be supporting this evening in Boston. A local band (as yet unnamed) will open in Connecticut.
Sorry for the disappointment caused by this. As of now New York, Philly and DC are still on as scheduled. If anything else changes we'll immediately post the news at www.wilcoworld.net. Thanks and see you out there.

Wilco is extraordinary. But alas, I cannot go. I am glad that Sonic youth isn't playing. I've seen them twice, and both times they put on horrible, sloppy, live shows, like watching Pavement without the "cool." They don't deserve to be on the same stage as Wilco.

Hey everybody, here's the latest on this situation: due to family illness we've had to cancel tonights show in Boston and tomorrow's in Wallingford, CT. Wilco will of course perform---tonight Mission of Burma will substitute for us in Boston, I don't know what's happening in CT.
Anyone wishing a refund can obtain on at the point where they purchased the tickets.
The remaining shows---New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC WILL GO ON AS PLANNED WITH SONIC YOUTH APPEARING. We're sorry for any confusion or disappointment this whole situation has caused---it obviously couldn't be helped.
See you soon at the remaining shows.

Man i wish i lived in NY...I love Wilco...
When I put them on in my car nobody knows what the hell i'm playing and they just assume its something weird because they've never heard it before...
I love Uncle tupelo too..."No Depression" and "Anodyne" were great albums. I wonder why they broke up. I heard it was "creative differences". I guess Farrar and Tweedy wanted to go in different directions.

my one true wish (apart from hearing any of those lyrics) would be if kotche, tweedy and o'rourke played anything and/or all of the amazing loose fur disc or the truly amazing jim o'rourke solo album "insignificance" ..... but one needs to be realistic and just lay back with a beer and my pals for a great double bill ....

All my daydreams are disasters
She's the one I think I love
Rivers burn and then run backwards
For her, that's enough
They all come from New York City
And they woke me up at dawn
She walked with me to the fountain
And she held onto my arm
Come on, do what you did
Roll me under New Madrid
Shake my baby and please bring her back
'Cause death won't even be still
Caroms over the landfill
Buries us all in its broken back
There's a man of conviction
And although he's getting old
Mr. Browning has a prediction
And we've all been told
So come on back from New York City
Roll your trucks in at dawn
Walk with me to the fountain
And hold onto my arm
Come on, do what you did
Roll me under New Madrid
Shake my baby and please bring her back

Wearing Wilco shirts to the show is a major faux pas, but then Wilco fans know this.
I could wear my A.M. shirt from their first tour, but no.
I have several Son Volt shirts, but that's just wrong.
I am contemplating wearing one of my Uncle Tupelo shirts, but I wore holes in both armpits on one and the othe doesn't fit.
It's going to be like 98 degrees. I think I'll just fly some surfer gear.
No Depression tomorrow everyone!

This is a picture of me. Look for the hot guy with the sequins. Then again, just ask for "The Chairman", that will work fine in the New York Metro area.
what was I thinking when I let go of you [b]

Wilco was off the hook amazing Thursday. So they move back up as a LIVE touring act for me, never seen them so great since they toured for Being There. Band looked great (Jeff shed his weight and gruff and wasn't too stoned and was very loose at the beginning), new drummer Glen is a dead ringer for that guy Aston Kutcher who's dating Demi Moore.
They started out (as usual) very slow and crescendoed (as usual) to a well paced, amazing mid-end set. Jeff started out with a mix of slow songs and quasi obscure covers, and didn't play one song that sounded like the album version, which was great, he did some awesome rearranging. The set was heavy on YHF (only notable song missing was Kamera), crowd seemed mostly Wilco late comers and responded amazingly, Heavy Metal Drummer the obvious audience participation crowd pleaser. The non YHF songs were almost all from Being There, only one or two songs from AM and Summerteeth. Encore was 2 songs, Sonic Youth-esque feedback jams with Jim O'Rourke joining in. No Monday or Box Full or Letters or New Madrid :-( but Jeff showed he can play a country-esque capo tune on acoustic just as well as a feedback distorted electric. He even debuted a flying Vguitar for a song.) Band was tight and joined by some Bob Nastonovich-esque guy who played a cowbell almost as good as Ron Bennington.
The heat was oppressive. We got there early and secured a great spot. 102 degrees. If you want to put down a blanket or get a good spot, get there around 4:30 and be on line. But the show didn't start until around 7.
Sonic Youth sucked. I saw them first in 1985 and have seen them about 10 times since. If you love the Sonics (as I used to) it was the same old shit, nothing to please their NYC home crowd, they were totally not into it. They did not play to the crowd, only one song that was a minor hit, no Teenage Riot to please me. I mean the heavy feedback with Thurston and Lee et. al. playing with gutted guitars and Theramin-esqe effects got old 10 years ago. Crowd was friendly, but mixing Wilco and SY on the same bill these days is like a double bill of 50 Cent and Yo Yo Ma. Too Cute's reaction to Sonic Youth (see's seen them before as well) was like me watching my mother at a Sick of It All show at CBGB's.
BRING WATER!!!! LOT'S OF IT!!!
The most amazing coincidence was that the guy right next to us was Drudge Jr. from the Board.I didn't know it as I talked to him for half the show (I mean he was right next to me) all I had to go by was what he posted, so I looked for a fat guy in an Unseen shit. Instead, this non-fat, cool guy in an Alternative Tentacles shirt (the ice breaker for me to talk to him immediately) was cool as shit, and eventually someone mentioned Ron and Fez and we figured out who he was. So in a sold out crowd of thousands, the RnF crew found each other with nothing but my Chairman pheramones to go by.
Remember LOTS OF WATER and even a change of shirt or two. The security was laid back, they checked bags, but you could bring in water, etc. Just no recording devices, metal cans, alcohol, etc.
You'll have an amazing time. I just wish it was all Wilco.

And Lisa, yes, you would have NOT liked it.
No songs from the Grease soundtrack, no Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera or Justin Timberlake, and no 80's hair rock or Beatles covers.

i thought sonic youth was damn good, its my first time seeing them so i wasnt expecting all the stuff that apparently they always do, but it was still a great show imo. it's kind of depressing to see how old they all are, especially kim. it was still very entertaining for me though. they didnt come anywhere near sucking.
wilco was awesome of course, a solid performance. i didnt know many of the early songs but eventaully they got to the hotel songs which i knew. that was great. the encore was awesome, does anyone know the name of the first song they played?
meeting the rf.net people was great, they were pretty cool. a good time was had by all.
