Ye shall post here if you (as I) have fond memories of candies and/or snacks from OTHER countries that are unavailable or difficult to obtain here.

Examples:

Starting at infancy, my parents took me to Italy at least twice a year. I still go and load up on the candies that I had there as a kid. Having them is a blast of nostalgia even better than inhaling a box of Crayola crayons....

Examples:

http://www.perfetti.it/img_tmp/temp10.jpg

The most amazing gum....I fondly remember purchasing packs on the Vaporetto in Venice for 100 lire. And it used to come in weird flavors like Yogurt, Chlorophyll and Licorice.

Brooklyn Chewing Gum (http://www.perfetti.it/products.php)

http://store6.yimg.com/I/gdcom_1745_8011144

Trips to just about anywhere in Europe wouldn't be complete without Kinder. Milk chocolate on the outside, white milk chocolate on this inside. These were made in Italy and Germany. They also came in cool "Egg" versions, which had a hidden toy surprise. People collect these and there are many fan sites. I have seen Kinder in the USA, but you gotta search it out...

Kinder (http://www.magic-kinder.com/)

http://metropolis.japantoday.com/biginjapanarchive299/259/pics/Pockypackett.jpg

No trip to Japan is complete without Pocky. I get these as Asian food stores (used to have them shipped from Japan.)

Pocky (http://www.glico.co.jp/info/pocky/index.htm)

http://www.perfetti.it/img_tmp/temp45.jpg

Even as a kid, I appreciated the more "adult" taste of Tabu, advertised, "Tabu, and you'll feel like new!"

And here is my current favorite candy bar, from England, with a brilliant marketing gimmick:

You already nailed my fave. Pocky. I was introduced to it when a kid from asia went to the same day camp as me and brought some in one day. Now, no trip to chinatown is complete without it.

I thought this was a thread about TooCute.

Chairman pretty much nailed most of the ones I would have picked. Having lived pretty much across the globe (Bling-BLING), I can safely say that "foreign" candy is, with VERY few exceptions, pretty awful and doesn't begin to compare to American candy. Europe at least can do wonderful things with chocolate, but Asia, Central & South America, Africa and the Middle East are pretty much lost causes. Most of the countries in these areas seem to think that "spicy" and "fruit" are great running themes. Unfortunately, you have tamarind usually thrown in as well, which just makes things even more hellish.

Do Mars Bars count as foreign candy? Because those rock. And I STILL have my Kinder Suprise toys...well, at least the European "Duck Tales" ones. I'm not sure why. And I remember this candy in France that I loved...it was like a square of chocolate, made up of about nine or so smaller squares...it could be solid or filled with something else...the mint kinds were my favorite. I see them in "upscale" shopping markets here like Sutton Place, but they're usually at least $5...

Mojo are you kidding me?!

Japan has the best candy EVER. I don't even know where to begin... but the flavors are the best... the fruit candies actually taste like the fruit's they're supposed to taste like. And I can't figure out why on earth american candy companies haven't figured out how good MILK is in hard candies... strawbery milk candies, milky candies, milky caramel... oh god they are all so good.

Those new pocky aeros are ok too.

KINDER SURPRISE!!!

My one friend used to get these shipped to him from his Dad who was stationed in Germany. I mean this is probably one of the coolest candies I have EVER seen and we DON'T GET THEM IN THE US!!! ARRRGH! I have a little collection of them from trips to England and Canada. The ones from England were way cooler than the Canadian ones.

I am making a trip to montreal in July to see my beloved Phillies so maybe I can find some up there again.

I am also a big fan of Chupa Chups which originates out of Spain. They are all over Europe and Canada and in very limited supply around here. I think only 15 flavors or so here, I have to check. But damn, England has Pineapple, Blueberry, Cola and other fruity pops while Canada has my personal favorites, Coffee, Espresso and Cappucino flovors.

I mailordered a shitload of those Coffee ones last year and always have them with me in my bag whereever I go. Ask me for one when you see me next. It is my token of good cheer.

I am trying to find the link my one friend sent me for this place that deals STRICTLY in Canadian candies. He gets about one order a month and flaunts them to his friends and co-workers.

Canadian Favourites (http://www.canadianfavourites.com/)

A bit of English and European Candies (http://www.britishdelights.net/)

Here is some wonderful Canadian Back Bacon (http://www.realcanadianbacon.com/)

I have too see if I can get the other Canadian Candy site from my friend. The one above doesn't ring a bell but is pretty good.

Whenever my dad comes back from Germany around Easter time, he brings chocolate eggs. These eggs are hollow, but the outer part is chocolate, while the inner coat is vanilla. They are delicious, but inside there is a plastic bubble that contains a kit that is a toy you can assemble. The egg tastes good and the toy inside is surprisingly detailed and high-quality.

My friend Jaime just got back from London, and she gave me something that almost ruined Cadbury's good name. I don't know WHAT it was called, but the closest thing I could compare it to was a giant Kit-Kat, but it tasted AWFUL. The thing was completely air puffed and tasted like a tale packing peanut covered in chocolate. WRETCHED.

YAY! A Canadian girl is on here! I love Canadian girls.

Now with that out of the way, I have checked that site before and there is some good shit there. The sweetie I love about Canada is none other than:

Tim Hortons!

http://collections.ic.gc.ca/wentworth/timh2.jpg

Donuts!

http://www.mtroyal.ab.ca/eatingoncampus/images/timhortons.jpg

If you ever make it to one, the Canadian Maple Donut is by far the best. Imagine a Boston Cream with Maple Dip on top rather than Chocolate. A couple of those and some of their coffee is to die for.

Also I must say that Fuzzybutt is right on with the Nutella. That is some seriously awesome stuff. Make a fluffernutter with THAT too. YUM! Nutella reminds me of my last girlfriend cause she was all about that.

There isn't much that I miss more from England than the candy. Oh man, Dolly Mixtures, Kola Kubes, Aniseed Balls, Coke Bottles, Licourice All Sorts, and forget about the chocolate bars, Aero, Flake, (I would kill someone for a 99 from the Southport Pier), Lion, Toffee Crisp, Quality Street and of course Smarties. American Chocolate pales in comparison. It's good because I see a lot of regular supermarkets, A&P, Stop and Shop, etc. are now starting to put English sections in their foreign food aisles.
Semi off the subject, but still snack food oriented, I miss the potato chips or "crisps" as we call them so much as well. Smith's, Walker's, Quavers, soooo fucking good. Do you have any idea what it's like to break into a bag of prawn cocktail crisps? It is heaven opn Earth.
