What draws some women to men in prison?

I read in the paper yesterday that Scott Peterson is getting love letters in jail. Serial killers Ted Bundy and Richard Ramirez even got married while in prison! And I believe one of the Menendaez brothers got married too.

And, from what I understand, a lot of men write women in prison.

Why would someone want to get involved with someone who's in been accused and convicted of violent crimes?

Fez had a pretty good take on the reason. A man in prison isnt gonna cheat on ya, and you know where he is at all times. I also think it has alot to do with the bad boy syndrome. Women are attracted to creeps, plain and simple.

That blows my mind as well. It just goes to show you that women and men can be just as equally f'd up when it comes to ideas of romance.


It must have something to do with a "nurturing" or "taking care" of feeling that they have towards these inmates. Plus, they know where they are at all times.

I think some women believe that the criminal is "misunderstood" and that she can somehow save him.

I was watching a show about this. Some guy started a web site so people can write to men and women in prison. It was just terribly sad. One woman moved her and her children from Denmark to marry a prisoner on death row in the US.

Eh, at least she knows where he's at 24/7!

As AJINDC pointed out, at least some women are attracted to these men b/c of their fame.

As ALICE pointed out, some women feel they can "save" the guy. This is bolstered by a study (I think out of England) reporting that many women hook up with these criminals through anti capital punishment websites.

Although it's certainly decreasing in recent years, women are still conditioned from an early age that to be complete they need to be with a guy. Of course that's bullshit. Only a person herself (or himself) can make herself (or himself) complete. nonetheless the socialization to hook up with a guy may be so strong that some women would rather have a guy in jail than no guy at all.

What I find particularly interesting is that the women who hook up with these men are not necesarily from the lower socioeconomic class. For example, terrorist Carlos the Jackal got engaged to his lawyer! Another notorious serial killer (I forgot whom) married his prison psychiatrist!
