More like the 100 most POPULAR songs as dictated by radio.

What about "River Of Deceit" by Mad River?

Or "Remember The Mountain Bed" by Wilco?

as much as nevermind knocked me on my ass when i was 16 .....

i can't really respect a list without:

"windfall" jay farrar
"i will dare" the 'mats
"it's the end of world ...." r.e.m.
"fairytale of new york" the pogues
"galway girl" steve earle
"tigerlilly" luna
"misunderstood" wilco
"you can have it all" yo la tengo
"drunken angel" lucinda williams
"anthrax" gang of four

but has included:

04. Eminem, "Lose Yourself"
12. Alanis Morissette ,"You Oughta Know"
16. No Doubt, "Don't Speak"
37. Alicia Keys, "Fallin"
50. Lenny Kravitz, "Are You Gonna Go My Way?"

i admit i don't get eminem, but i find really hard to swallow that he wrote the #4 best song in the last 25yrs .....

unless there's room for the breeders, liz phair and pj harvey -- i don't wanna see miss morissette .....

the same goes for no doubt, too -- gimme "a message to you rudy" by the specials .....

and i guess tom waits hasn't written anything of note compared to the scary talents of alicia keys & lenny kravitz ......

Or "Remember The Mountain Bed" by Wilco?

or maybe "Clean the Slate" or "New Madrid" by Uncle Tupelo?

47. Shania Twain, "You're Still the One"

Ugh. Since Shania counts as country for some reason, why not "Pancho and Lefty" by Haggard and Nelson?

Because "Pancho and Lefty" is by Townes Van Zant, possibly the greatest songwriter of the last 35 years, and if any version should be on the charts, it should be his.

OK so let me get this straight, two of the 100 so called BEST songs of the last twenty-five years include:

The Backstreet Boys - I want it that way
Nelly - Hot in Herre
Britney Spears - Baby One More Time
and
Eminem - Lose Yourself

ok, fine, ill let the first three slide, BUT LOSE YOURSELF BEING THE 4TH BEST SONG IN THE PAST TWO AND A HALF DECADES, NO FUCKING WAY. And why does every one of these lists feel they need to put Nirvana, Madonna, Micheal Jackson, or Run DMC at the top of every list they make. Why not throw a curveball in there, let AC/DC be the greatest rock band of all time.

YES! Journey made the list!

seriously, vh1's just fuckin lame. theres a few hiphop numbers that wouldnt even make a top 100 best hiphop songs of the last 5 years, much less 25.

but who really cares? i just watch the stupid program to hear Drea De Matteo say her name fast. and one of her fuckin eyes is bigger than the other. still hot.

How can they be beaten by fucking Eminem along with a bunch of other worthless songs?

And if anyone says 1 unkind word about The Knack you will all persih.

Oh and add Rick Springfield-"Jessies Girl" to that list for the love of mankind.

I think whoever made this list should be railed unmercifully for its lack of a Dire Straits song..

My thoughts exactly, not to take away from the list.. some of them are great.. many are crap.. but that's just my opinion as subjective as ever. I enjoy lists as much as the next person but VH1 has really exhausted itself. They have an audience to cater to so of course they aren't going to include any lesser known/less popular songs on this list. Which btw, although I'm beginning to question the masses tastes, just because it's popular doesn't mean it sucks and vice versa.

Morissette doen't hold a candle to any of the aforementioned.. Personally I neve got into her music.. annoying whiney voice.. as for No Doubt- they shoulda stuck with their ska roots eh.
