View Full Version : The Road Map to Peace is a Dead End

[color=purple]And yes, it's a true tragedy.

For the Israelis, who must contend with terrorism the likes of which we couldn't even begin the fathom. Damned if they do defend themselves, dead if they don't.

For the Palestinians, whose leadership has sold them out yet again, ensuring that their own children have nothing more to strive for in life than that of becoming a human bomb.

And make no mistake, that really is the only thing they have to aspire to.

Because from the time they learn to speak, Palestinian children are taught that there is no greater honor than that of dying in the cause of Israel's demise. Suicide bombers are given, albeit posthumously, celebrity status. Their images are printed on the Palestinian equivalent to baseball cards, their names are lent to towns and soccer stadiums. Their once poverty stricken families are paid off handsomely by the likes of Saddam and the Saudi Royal Family.

I've said here many a times that peace is there for the Palestinians to take, and that you can't blame Israel is they refuse to take it. But recent events have me wondering why.

Why would they not be seizing the opportunity for Palestinian statehood? Is that not what they've supposedly been dying and killing for?

And the obvious answer is that the Arab World just doesn't want peace.

It was never about the settlements in the West Bank. It has nothing to do with borders or self rule. It isn't even about the Palestinians. They are nothing more than pawns for the rest of the Arab World to play, with Israel's very destruction being the only acceptable check mate.

Would-be Palestinian leader Abdul Abbas said last week that he will not use force in trying to stop his own people's terrorist attacks. Hamas declared this weekend that the word "cease fire" isn't within its vocabulary. And so it goes. Now with talk of maybe sending U.S. forces into the region to try and crack down on Palestinian terrorist.

This won't work. It only treats the symptoms, but leaves the disease in place.

Countries like Jordan, Syria and Iran are nothing more than a farm team for terror. It may be Palestinian teenagers blowing themselves up on those buses, but it's these countries that are supplying the explosives and incentive.

Peace will only come once they've been dealt with.

And not by the U.S.A., either. This is Israel's fight, all we need do is allow them to fight it. Palestinian statehood should be granted immediately, absent any conditions at all. And on that very day, Sharon should do as Bush did after 9/11 and declare war.... not only on the terrorist, but also those who harbor and support them. And follow the fuck through!

It's time to fight the real enemy, once and for all. It's time to call this for what it is. This is no more about the Palestinian people, as 9/11 was about American Airlines. Israel's enemies, much like the enemies of America and Democracy, won't be satisfied with anything less than total destruction.

Peace with these people won't come at the bargaining table. If it was that easy, the deal would've been done long ago. No, true and lasting peace will only come on the battlefield.

As for this country, if we keep fucking around, getting sidetracked by secondary threats like Saddam and the Palestinians, while the true architects of terror are left unscathed, we better get used to living at a Level Orange State of Alert for quite some time.

I stop ranting and go eat sushi now.

The road map was dead before it began. It was the same ramble they attempted previously, except the US mildly scolded Israel for raiding Palestianian areas in an attempt to kill Hamas leaders and militants (many civilians were killed as well). Israel also announced today they will not let up in their fight against Hamas. So if you take the level of your opponent, the outcome will always remain in war and not attempting to find a real solution in peace. It would be something interesting to see if the US cut aid to Israel as well as military assistance (not that it would actaully ever happen though). Gary, Palestinians aren't the enemy of the US...terrorists are and they are not one in the same.

[color=purple]Dude, maybe it's time to work on reading comprehension. Not only didn't I say that the Palestinians were the enemy, but I went on to name the countries that were. Again, the Palestinians are nothing more than a sad and stupid pawn, being duped into doing the dirty work for the rest of the Arab World.

As for the rest of your babble, Sharon is sitting at the table. Israel is ready to make peace. If you'd pull your head out of your ass long enough to put your bias aside, perhaps you'd see that.

Sorry I must have missed you mentioning that in your post Gary.

As for me being biased? Where exactly did you see that? I think BOTH sides need to stop the violence. Palestine needs to stop the terror groups as well as Israel needs to stop bombing and attacking. Is that a biased view? If you believe it to be, maybe it's not me that's biased.

Gary, Palestinians aren't the enemy of the US...

But they should be.

terrorists are and they are not one in the same.

But they sure as hell seem to be.

I don't think the road map is dead. There is SOME small hope it will work.

nd not by the U.S.A., either.

You know what? I think it's a great idea to let Israel deal with the problem as it sees fit. All it would take was for the U.S. to just step back and say we wash our hands of the situation like a good Pontius Pilate.

But the problem is, for all the posturing people do - "Fuck them both, we should just let them blow each other up!" - if we (the U.S.) just stepped aside, Israel would DESTROY Hammas and Arafat and the like, and what would happen? The U.N. would condemn them and many of the same people who use the "let them blow each other up" argument would now be on Israel's ass for being too "extreme".

Israel is fucked. Anyway you look at it.

if we (the U.S.) just stepped aside

Would this stepping aside notion include taking back all of Israel's military weaponry and armaments? It is aided and funded by the US. Truth be told, there's no such thing as an Israel military....it's US weaponry used by Israeli soldiers.

Not initially.

In fact, the Israeli army was supported far more by the British than the Americans in its early critical years.

Anti-semite.

No, I'm kidding, of course. ;) ;p

I'm not sitting here crying for Israel, but really, they're not in a good position. And maybe a lot of people here don't care about that, but flat out, from a purely analytical point of view, they really have no positive route - they don't fight back, civilians get killed (I don't think anyone, here at least, is naive or ignorant enough to think that Hammas will end their aggression even if Israel does), if they were to be unleashed upon Hammas, they'd be condemned for it. So, damned if they do, yadda yadda yadda.

And it just annoys me because I know that there would be a few people who are hypocritical enough to argue the "We should just let them go at it, I'm sick of both of them" argument and then turn right around and condemn Israel when they get the upper hand.

Click me (http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/06/25/mideast/index.html)

Should be interesting if these groups actually do what they say. We may also see some interesting 'peace plans' and 'demands' by each side if these groups hold to their cease fire. May actually clearly see who is giving too much or asking for too much from the other side. But I wouldn't actually expect that in our media system. Regardless, it is a good sign.

Condemn, shomdemn.

They're all assholes.

The Palestinians for the most part won't stop the violence against the Israelis until Israel is destroyed, the Israelis for the most part won't stop pushing the Palestinians into oblivion. NEITHER side has a longterm plan outside of some vague notion that one side will inevtiably have to destroy the other. Fuck 'em.

Both sides just end up killing innocent men, women and children. I don't give a fuck if it's done with an army or a terrorist when either way the results are exactly the same.

SSSSSSEEYUH, ass-countries.

I couldnt agree with mojo more, we are not going to stop the fighting, its like telling a cat not to lick itself, sure it might work for what, maybe a minute and then 15 minutes later there he is sitting in the corner doing it again. Why are we even involved, because were allies with isreal? What do we need from them that we cant get from somewhere else with less trouble as well. either that or we should send everything we have over there and "fix" these palestenians ourselves, no more of this road map shit.

Mojo's right. I am physically exhausted just from hearing about this. Though I disagree that we should just let them go at it. Something has to be done. I don't think the US should go in alone, but sending in NATO troops (on the condition that the Turks send troops) could do some good depending on the type of role that they serve.
