I was going to start a San Antonio Spurs appreciation thread, but opted to just post here. I am not the biggest sports fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I do support my local teams. A Spurs win tonight in Game 5 will make the Spurs the Western Conference champs, yet again!

I have noticed that the Spurs never seem to get anywhere near the media attention that other, lesser teams get, no matter how well they do. Even though San Antonio is in hayseed-land, it is the 7th largest city in the USA (by population), and 3rd or 4th in area. I'm not sure why they don't get much attention. I actually did hear sound clips on XM yesterday of Coach Pop, Li'l Timmy, and a couple others in a commercial, but they weren't identified, so somebody less familiar with them wouldn't even realize they were Spurs.

I have to say, the Spurs are good sportsmen, and behave like gentlemen. There has been a little talk during these playoffs that perhaps they have been a little less gentlemanly than normal, but when you compare them to a lot of the big teams, they have some wiggle room in that department.

Tim Duncan is absolutely incredible, and Manu Ginobili rocks that fat ass. It's too bad the Admiral retired, but he still lives here, about two miles from my place.

Anyway, I am not one of those insane fans that wishes death on other teams, but I do support our boys and I hope they can take it all the way again!

Well as a guy with no stake in that Suns/Spurs series, I'll be the first to say the Spurs acted like an old Pat Riley Knicks team during those 6 games. They knew the only way they could win was to beat the living shit out of Steve Nash...so that's what they did.

And David Stern delivered them a gift with the retarded suspensions in Game 6 of Amare & Diaw.

I'll be the first to admit it was a good tactic for them, but I don't buy this "gentlemen" and fairplay bullshit for a second.

When you grow up in Canada and you don't have a team you get some arbitrary reason to root for some faraway team for life. This was mine I suppose.

I love watchin the Spurs, just modest below the radar winners for over 15 years straight. Been in the Finals 4 out of the last 5 years, nobody remembers. They got a 49'ers esque legacy and yet nobody ranks them when those lists pop up.

They'll get this championship again, just I was hopin to see a Pistons rematch.

As for Duncan he's been playin better than ever this year, I just hope he can hit those clutch free throws when the time comes this time. Watching him in some clutch moments has been painfull.

Parker's just gotten better, Ginobli fallen off but team's still amazing.

Can't wait till the finals.

The Spurs are the best team in the NBA. It's not even close. Clevelend didn't belong on the same court.

Still doesn't change the fact that the Spurs are the most boring basketball team ever.

I don't hate them. In fact, of all the teams I've ever rooted against, they are without a doubt the least obnoxious.

They aren't fun to watch. Their little "dynasty" is going to be the end of the NBA. If LeBron wasn't there the Finals probably would have drawn hockey ratings.
