I love my friend. She's great, but she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Don't get me wrong, I have immense respect for her. She's in a really great place in her life considering all she's had to endure. But, some of the things she says kill me.

Yesterday we're in the cafeteria at work and she says, "Oh there's Sophie. Girl, she's gained some weight! She must be 'getting some.'"


I am perplexed by this comment, so I say, "Huh?"


She says, "Sex. Sex causes weight gain."


"Huh?"


"No really! I knew a girl from 125th Street. Skinny as a rail until she got with this guy. Then she blew up. It changes your body."


That one is going to be roaming around my brain until it causes an aneurysm.

I just had an interesting thought.

So what does that mean for her? Is she ever going to start having regular sex with a guy and get fat? Or is she going to just have casual sex with different guys every now and then to keep her figure?

I think I can explain a little...

Most women, and men too, end up gaining weight when they are getting sex regularly due to being part of a committed relationship. This may stem from a combination of factors, including eating more at restaurants and ordering in to watch movies, the fact that you both are no longer on the dating scene and spend more time just being with one another, not having to feel the need to diet etc. because your significant other is happy with you.

I don't think there is a direct link to regular sex and weight gain, because just as she knows someone from 125th street that was skinny as a rail blah blah blah, I've fucked regularly for a good ten years now and I weigh less than I did when I started.

Oh, trust me, I went that route with her! She still insisted that it's the physical act itself that causes weight gain. This is the same woman who, at 48, had no idea that Catholics don't condone the use of birth control.

Although, there might be something to her theory-- I was a lot thinner when I was married! :)
