I'm driving to Buffalo this weekend from Long Island, does anyone know the fastest route to get there. I've checked out Mapquest and Yahoo, one of them is telling me to go through Albany across to Syracuse and then over to Buffalo. The other is putting me through N.J., part of Penn. Up to Syracuse then across to Buffalo.
Is there a more direct route, someone was saying route 17 but I would need something more explicit.
Thanks.

I know you are driving but for future reference, remember JetBlue Airlines. They go from JFK to Buffalo in a little over 1 hr and they arent expensive. The DirectTV on every seat is the greatest thing to ever happen to airline travel.

Wormwood,
Just go to mapquest and punch in your town and then buffalo- you'll go through jersey and penn.-or you could just stay on the NY thruway-can't get lost that way!!

Get on the NYS Thruway (87-N), take it up to Albany, then take 90 West to Buffalo.
Don't take 17, everyone says its faster but its a scary two lane road and it always ends up taking longer

I go by this way alot. The route I take (to avoid most of the tolls on the thruway) is:
Rte 17 to binghampton
I-81 from binghampton to syracuse
I-90 (nys thruway) from syracuse to buffalo
rte 17 only gets scary way upstate past elmira. In the Catskills it's a great scenic drive.
