View Full Version : My Summer Adventure at the Shore

So the other day this friend of mine Jack came up to me and asked what I was doing for the weekend. I told him I was thinking about going down to the shore and play some video games and maybe get some of those cool band shirts that they sell at those cloned shirt shops on the boardwalk. May be cool, I may find some old school Def Leppard 3/4 sleeve shirts or even some Shout At the Devil Motley Crue shirts. Maybe even some old school Stone Temple Pilots shirts in where the proceeds go to getting Weiland through rehab. Who knows?
There is this really cool bar down there called the Sand Bar where this AMAZING Doors cover band called Khrystal Shit plays almost every weekend. They do good renditions of Doors songs and even change around some of the words to make it sound like every song is about having diseases. Cool stuff. Definitely a novelty act. They let underage kids drink there too but last I heard the owner was in court for it but that is not really important right now.
Anyway, I just got this new car that my parents drove up from the bahamas ont heir last vacation where they got it for dirt cheap and it runs pretty good. High milage but it runs and it will be a good summer car. They got me a Yellow Camaro. Great car. Kind of reminds me of Kitt but Kitt was black and talked but this one has T-Tops. Does some wicked donuts on my parents lawn and in the backseat I found a Tony Orlando and Dawn cassette. They gave me an Exxon Credit Card to for gas costs over the summer.
Bitchin' I say. Bitchin'!

You took the words right outta my mouth.......I live near Monmouth Racetrack, and the traffic sucks, especially at the clusterfuck of a intersection at Monmouth Mall. Looks like I'll be stuck at home for the Haskell weekend, which now has Funny Cide in it, because bennies drive like shit around here.

Belmar is guido city. Just awful. Give me the South Jersey shore anyday. Strathmere, Sea Isle, Avalon: nice, quiet relaxing towns with no muscle cars, shirts or heads.

Bennies are visitors to the shore, mainly from NYC. Legend has it that "Bennies" is short for Benjamin, a popular Jewish name. The shore area, back in the day, was for the super rich to summer at........even towns like Keansburg was upscale. I guess you could say the term "bennies" is racist. I don't care much about that anyway, bennies suck regardless.

I have heard both of them also Bennys are a type of speed. Since the tourists usually flood the roads and such everywhere they go, Bennys became their nickname.
ANYWAY
I used to live in Keansburg and Union Beach...you flood our streets with cars, you rent out our boardwalk for a fucking day and leave us with NOTHING to do, you crowd our beaches(Union Beach, Seven Presidents, Keansburg, Sandy Hook) with your fat pasty white asses and then you leave a fucking dump behind you. I fucking hate Bennies so much!!!!!1!11!

Not that I go to the Jersey Shore, but...perhaps there are retailers and merchants down in this area that depend on these so-called "Bennies" for their livelihood? Before lambasting these people, look into what they possibly do for the local economy before tying them to the stake!

I am kind of craving some lamb right about now. Although a steak would be nice.
Boardwalk Pizza would really kick some serious ass right about now.

Keansburg is surround by lets count here...9 towns. That's pretty much in the heart of Central Jersey...now I think our economy could manage without the Bennies so NUH!!!!!!

The problem Keansburg had is that they have an amusement park there. So do Seaside Heights and Wildwood. That's what attracts the people with their kids.
The area Dreamweaver and I live around is where mostly the 20-somethings show up to get drunk and party. I'd guess about 1/3 of the houses in Belmar wind up as summer rentals, and there's probably a few in the surrounding towns, too (Avon, Bradley Beach, Neptune). I stay away from the beach as much as possible, but when you try to get into your favorite drinking establishment and you can't because there's too many bennies in there getting drunk, it becomes a pain in the ass.
As for the origin of Bennies, the reference to the towns is correct. It refers to the train tickets and the starting locations they came from. In South Jersey, they're called Shoobies (SHOOBY) for similar reasons.

Shoobies were names from the shoeboxes folks would pack thier beach supplies in when public transportation opened up to the beaches.
they benefit the local economy
