Lucky Charms.....my favorite cereal as a kid. Frosted whole grain oat cereal with 8 different "marshmallow bits." Who can resist the hearts, stars, horseshoes, clover, blue moons, pots of gold, rainbows and red balloons?
And it's so reassuring to know that Lucky the Leprechaun creates each of the marshmallows with his powerful rainbow magic.
"Lucky Charms . . . they're magically delicious!"
Now here's my problem:
I know marshmallows.
I like marshmallows.
Marshmallows are a friend of mine.
"Marshmallow bits" are no marshmallows.
Call them sugar bits. Call them compressed cotton candy pellets. But marshmallow is synonymous with a SOFT sugar confection to me.
Quite honestly, as a kid I actually was confused at this faux marshmallow. The Lucky Charm "marshmallow bit" (although quite tasty) is the textured soy protein of the cereal world.
Now are they stale? When they go into the box are they any different?
What I don't understand is why Lucky the Leprechaun can create the wonderfully shaped and colored marshmallows, but can't use his powerful rainbow magic to make soft marshmallows.

Take a chill pill and let them soak up Milk man.
I agree with you that you should be able to pick out the marshmallows first and have a big box of cereal no one would ever eat, but I guess they might have had problems keeping them fresh or something?
I have no real answers except that they get softer with a soaking.

These things are like chalk! I have never and never will eat thies little bits of garbage. Count Chocula and friends came close to naving good marshmallows in their cereal but anything else, I strictly stay away from.
They used to use these little fuckers in Hot Chocolate too.
Nihilists!

You'd think that by using big soft fluffy marshmallows (which
perhaps don't stand up well to shipping and handling), they'd be
able to put less product into boxes and save money.
Cereal sucks anyway.
I'd sure love to post a picture of Frau farbissina but hey, the
board doesn't like my mac :(

That's because the things in the cereal aren't marshmallows, they're "marbits", completely different product.
And TooCute, hand code your img tags.

Can't. It's that same old IE on Mac problem again - IE inserts
line breaks on its own so hand coding stuff doesn't work :(
The same line breaks that make all IE on Mac posts look like
newspaper columns... only they're slightly wider now of the new
board :)

I agree, they're not marshmallows. I always liked them, but never really considered them to be actual marshmallows.

Hey. Lucky Charms is an authentic Irish food item, and it all sucks. Can you believe Lucky Charms isnt even part of what they call an "Irish Breakfast"??? Instead, they give you blood sausage and taters. Take one bite of that crap and you'll be runnin' back to the leprechaun beggin him to make your marshmallows even harder.
