xbox vs ps2

i'm sure this might have been posted before, and if it has, things have changed a lot since then.

anywho, i have an xbox, got it in december, got a few games. and haven't used it much since. obvious the superior gaming system, but lacking utterly in games.

ps2 has all the exclusive rights to the games i want to play- gta, madden online, etc...

i plan on selling the xbox this coming weekend (getting a raise) and picking up ps2.

i would like some arguements/ news not to do so, i'd hate to act premature. but with the coming of ps3 in '05, i'm running with the winning team.

Sorry can't help you..I'm still playing my Dreamcast...damn SEGA! They did have a thread on this before but like you I'm still deciding which system to get. What happened to Gamecube? Aren't they a part of the gaming system wars to?

gamecube has the best game ever (outside the final fantasy series.) in metroid: prime. definitely an amazing game and dont b stupid and not even think about purchasing a cube. as for the ps2, that should b your final decision. ps2 and squaresoft will b releaseing final fantsy xi 2gether. and even if u dont like final fantasy i suggest u pick it up. its coming with an expansion for the ps2....a 40 gig harddrive. and if have patience wait til 2004 and pick up the PSX. its basically teh ps2 but u can burn dvds, cds, and its gonna have a 120 gig harddrive. and the internert adapter included...if i didnt have my ps2 i would wait..........

I enjoy my cube. The games are edgy and different. Zelda, Metroid, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil, etc.

PS2 has my Final Fantasy series (CC will be for GC), but I find I spend much more on my GC.

And how much you thinking of selling that XBox for? :)

This is the knock that the Gamecube has, but it really isn't true. Sure there are some games geared towards kids, but so does the PS2. GC has a bunch of games that you would consider mature, for instance Eternal Darkness the Resident Evil exclusives. I think Gamecube has gotten this reputation because Nintendo's highest profile character/games have been the Mario games. Frankly, the latest Mario game was probably too hard for most really young kids.

Gamecube is unfortunately the number 3 selling system in the U.S. This is too bad, because Nintendo is responsible for some of the best games in the history of videogames and is arguably the greatest game developer ever. As pointed out above, Metroid Prime is a GC exclusive and is absolutely phenomenal -- it's even been ranked as the best game for any system last year by a number of sources.

Unfortunately, Nintendo has made some poor decisions in marketing and manufacturing this system. These include:

- waiting a full year after the PS2 was released before releasing the Gamecube
- releasing only memory cards with small capacity, so fans of sports games, who like to play full seasons, would have to purchase multiple memory cards.
- not giving the GC DVD playability
- not having their best known titles available at launch time
- a bunch more I can't think of right now

Nintendo was also saddled with additional poor decisions made with their prior system, the N64, first and foremost, sticking with the cartridge format when PS1 and Dreamcast were shifting to CD based games.

It has also had to work against the "kiddie" label that they have been saddled with.

It's all pretty unfortunate. The Gamecube is a great system, with a lot of great games, but many people pass it off as a "kiddie" system.

Definitley PS2, the games on Xbox are mostly junk and the good games they have are made for all three systems (sports games,medal of honor, etc.) and the only thing they got for the front runnin is Halo.

The only thing for XBOX that I can see happening is Halo 2, but that isnt coming out for awhile.

and definetly dont just throw out the cube idea. It ain't bad at all. Metroid, Mario, Zelda...its got its stuff.

i know a lot of people whose x-box started to burn out after about a year of solid playing (at least 12 hours a week for 50 weeks), mine included (and they all have the later ones that had fans in the back). I guess you haven't played your x-box much, but it seems to be crappily made, so if you can trick someone into buying it for a solid amount of cash, i'd go for PS2.

Forget Xbox and Ps2 its Gamecube all the way. Nothing beats Zelda: The Wind Waker except Zelda: A Link to the Past.

But anyway, yea, Gamecube all the way. Metroid, Starfox, Res. Evil and Zelda, you cant fight those games.

definitely sony was smart, they had the best controller in the business adn they kept it. not all companys are stupid.

seriously if i were u id be patient and wait for PSX. id pick- up a cube in th emean time. cube gives u a ton of free shit, plus if u wait a month or two u can get a free gameboy advance with it. cube is the way i'd go, for now at least. but if your only buying it for sports games then ps2 is the best option. cubes sports games suck, but i blame the controller.

i honestly didn't figure cube into the equation, but it seems to have a lot of support. agreed, games listed rock, but the system doesn't seem to pan out in the longevity scheme.

And how much you thinking of selling that XBox for?

i walked into 1 store and they offered $100 store credit. now i have to call around, see who will give me the most. then pay the difference. hoping for $150, probably won't happen.
