kind of lost it's heat, but still recurring.
in the cases of people sexually abused by priests, and previously settled out of court, if they bring the case back to court don't they own the curch and prior reparations?
i think they do. you were paid to shut the fuck up and took money to do so. don't get me wrong; it's herendous. i'm all in favor of castrating these immoral men. but if settled out of court, justice wasn't served in favor of a monetary settlement.
and bring it up again is only a monetary thing. plus, who benefits the most- scum bag lawyers and that sickens me even more.
i hold the parents or lawyers responsible for any cases that are brought to court again now. they profitted originally and maybe the children didn't see a dime. but i be it paid for a college education, a morgage, etc...
this doesn't apply to any new cases- castrate those fuckers. but fuck double dipping.

That's an interesting quandry you've put me in.
The victims obviously deserve our simpathy and maybe didn't get enough money the 1st time so they want some more. I mean if a kid today gets a million and you got 5000 back in the 60's, you'd want more too.
Then again like you said. If it was legally settled out of court then it is legally over. Plus, who can really put a price tag on someon's mental anguish? Certianly not the scumbag lawyers who only seek to push up settlements to increase their percentage.
I am completely undecided on this one. I have cannot decide one way of the other.
I think I'm having a stroke.

I think that the kid should just get an ice cream!!!!
Father John is doing reconcilliation at the local church. He gets hungry and asks Father Joe to take over. The Father instructs Father Joe to just look each Sin up on the repentance chart. The first person to come in is a guy, who says he's masturbated 6 times in the last 2 days. Father Joe looks masturbation up on the chart and tells the guy to say 6 hail marys. The next person to come in is a girl. She says "Father, I have sined, I have had anal sex three times." Father Joe looks it up on the chart, but fails to find anal sex. So the Father says to the Alterboy who is passing by, "Steven, what does Father John give for anal sex?". Steven replies, "He usually gives me ice cream".

My question, do we all owe Sinead O'Connor an apology?
After the whole infamous tering up of the Pope's picture on SNL so many years ago, she said right after that that she did it to "protest all the unpunished cases of child abuse running rampant in the Catholic church", but none of us listened.
Whoops.

i hold the parents or lawyers responsible for any cases that are brought to court again now. they profitted originally and maybe the children didn't see a dime. but i be it paid for a college education, a mortgage, etcfirst of all, you have nothing on which to base a conclusion that the kids never saw a dime.. what's that all about? whether or not you agree with what's going on now, basing an opinion on some facts might be nice. further, are you saying that if the settlement money went toward putting the kid through college that's an inappropriate use of the money? what would be a better one?
If it was legally settled out of court then it is legally over. Plus, who can really put a price tag on someon's mental anguish? Certianly not the scumbag lawyers who only seek to push up settlements to increase their percentage.to be honest, i don't know too much about what's going on here... but if they are able to bring these cases now, then obviously it's not illegal for them to do so. there are lots of little nuances in the law. and, for my part, if they can make these disgusting pedophiles suffer more, i say line 'em up.
maybe it's because i'm going to be a lawyer in about two years from now, but i think all of the "scumbag lawyer" talk is somewhat misplaced. sure, there are some bad, greedy lawyers out there who will selfishly (and unethically) put their needs ahead of their client's, but that doens't make it the rule, or even common. there are bad people everywhere, and lawyers get an unfairly bad rap.
furthermore, even going on the assumption that you're talking about a sumbag lawyer here, that's not necessarily a bad thing. while the lawyer might be seeking to raise his contingency fee, the client is still going to profit from that greed. and i'd much rather see that money in the hands of the kid and his lawyer than in the tainted hands of the priest who molested him.
