I'm pretty stoned right now and my appetite is getting the best of me. I saw an ad in the paper the other day for Omaha Steaks. it's one of those places where you order them on the phone or online and they send them to you. i've never ordered from one before and was wondering if anyone has and how they were. not Omaha Steaks specifically, but one of these types of places. the food looks real good and i just went to there website and may order some stuff. but the way i'm feeling right now i might over order a bunch of shitty food. so if you have ordered before please let me know your opinion. thanks. and if you want to view the site:

the steaks looks real good.

just find a "local" butcher, you can get the same thing without the little bit of hassle...

what was the saying in Tommy Boy?

you can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a cows ass but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it...

or something like that...

I recently did the same thing and ordered a bunch of steaks from Omaha Steaks. Funkman is right. I would have been better off just going to a good butcher.

i've heard of this and i know you're stoned and probably starving, but think about this for a minute. You order steaks...and they send them IN THE MAIL. It's gotta be rancid just a lil by the time it gets there.

On the other hand... I've never ordered from Omaha Steaks, so I can't speak from experience but I was out in Omaha on business a couple of months ago, and I went to a place that was called (I think) Omaha Beef for dinner. I had one of the best, if not the best, steaks I've ever had in my life. I don't know what they're feeding the cows out there, but it's damn good.

BTW - The steaks were not the best I ever had. They're shipped in dry ice. Fresh is always better.

The steaks aren't anything special, but they're shipped with dry ice and that can be fun. My toilet was all smoking and evil ooking for a while.

When you receive the meat in that styrofoam sarcophagus vacuum packed in dry ice,it may as well(and looks like)be human flesh. It really doesn't resemble a steak.

I heard they offer free delivery to the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

It's T.V.'s fault I am this way.

I've been to Nebraska (Omaha and Lincoln), first thing I wanted to do was have a corn fed steak.

I went to the finest steak houses in both cities.

The verdict?

There is nothing that beats a NY steak. That's because almost all of the best USDA Prime steak goes to the top restaurants and hotels outside Nebraska (NY, Chicago, Japan.)

Don't get me wrong, they weren't bad, but I kept silent while my Nebraska friends kept raving about how good the steaks were there.

What gets me is the Midwest propensity to cook their steaks too much. Go to Indiana, say, and they like their steaks well done more often than not. An interviewer once asked Larry Bird what took most getting used to living on the East Coast, and he said that he always had to remember to order his steaks "well done."

In a great NYC steakhouse, order a steak more than medium rare and they look at you funny.

As far as Omaha steaks, it's brand marketing. I received them one year as a gift. They are frozen (not good) and were unremarkable. Better off finding a good local butcher and making friends with him or her.

My favorite one is: http://lobels.com/index_lobels.htm

I know I'm wasting a post by saying this (but who hasn't whored before, honestly?) but the Chairman hit the nail on the head, I couldn't say it better myself......which is why I'm not going to.

Look for Coleman Meat in the supermarket. Those cows are fed grass and are free range, meaning they arent all hearded together and stressed and injected with growth hormones and shit. Its better for you and tastes awesome and it supports the idea of having cows live a more descent life than all packed together like sardines. You see how tall kids are getting today and how girls are maturing and getting huge hooters at age 12 or so? Its because they grew up eating meat that was injected with growth hormones and it remains to be seen the long term effects of this stuff. Coleman meat rocks!

(I have nothing against huge hooters btw)

had coffee with my grandad(88 years old) and uncle(68) yesterday morning and asked them if they knew about Omaha Steaks... they had ordered them in the past(which i never knew) and made comments:

> good steak
> they are packed in the dry ice and frozen solid when you get them
> they come in a nice box
