i love the ladies don't get me wrong, but just cuz you have a vag, doesn't make you a lady.
i should have posted this as, "i have a stick in my ass" but i think this happens more often than not.
question for the guys- what is the % of guys vs girls who say thank you when you hold the door or let them in traffic?
i would say 95% of guys will acknowledge, 50% of women will not.
sory to get my panties in a bunch, but i always hold the door, guys & girls alike. (it's jus the way i was raised) and it sets me off when i'm not acknowledged. all i want is a simple thank you.
it's stupid, i know, but honestly, do women think men are supposed to hold the door? i'm bothered when people take courtesy for granted. it is just rude. i shouldn't expect something in return, but am bothered when it's not.

its just a common courtesy to hold the door, which i do and it is also polite to say thanks to someone who held the door for me. it peves me when people walk past you like its your job to hold the door for them.

guttersnipe, you're one of the good. and i've noticed southern women do it more often than not - coming from a yank.
but here's another observation for the ladies. for a guy you know holding the door, you'll more thn likely say thanks. but for a stranger, it's less frequent. (just an observation of the ladies i know)

I don;t get a lot of thanks but guys also don;t say thanks when I hold the door for
them. You know so they don't have to use the key and what not. But in the past...... I
have bitten my tongue and was unable to speak. When people held the door for me I
always freaked out because people would always yell at me. SAY THANK YOU. I
always gave a hand signal but it mattered not. I always imagine a mute always

This is a pet peeve of mine as well. Some inconsiderate whore dropped a door on me a couple weeks ago and I was pissed all day. You're right.. women do it more than men. I've also found that almost NO ONE does the "left hand up/thank you" wave when let into traffic. is it really necessary to call the topic "dumb bitches"? if you don't want to hold the door for people anymore, then don't. I don't see how this makes all women into dumb bitches...maybe they were just in a rush or thinking of something a little more important than making sure you were emotionally stroked for being such a swell door holding type of guy...

this isn't directed at all women. there are many considerous women out there. my point was that there is a better majority that take this consideration for granted. if i was a bigger person, i wouldn't let it bother me, but it does set my day off on the wrong foot.
is it that hard to say "thank you "? and i wasn't talking about women in a hurry. i was referring to situations where i sat and waited for said person to pass through open door and got nothing. it just pisses me off.

actually i'll hold the door for anyone even if they are a few steps behind, not that walk-through and notice you so push the door a second time thing so it stays open a little longer, and whether its a girl or guy rarely do you get a thankyou. If its a pretty girl i usually let her get away with it but if its an ugly girl or a guy i usually say excuse me, walk out the door so they have to back up out from where they came and then turn around go on my way and make sure to close the door behind me. yeah so i look to start shit.

I don't know where you all live and who you all know, but most people (chicks and guys) that I hold the door for say thank you - and I notice it because at work there's a little foyer so you go through two sets of doors. Before the person behind you is done saying thank you, they have to say it again and it always cracks me up.

I don't understand what you're trying to say and how it relates to the topic at hand.
First of all silver is the color of choice for Mercedes Benz corporate. All of thier commercials showcase silver cars. MBUSA.COM showcases silver cars. The cars themselves look thier best in silver. Silver itself is a sharp color for a car, less gaudy than gold, more elegant than green/black/red. It's the perfect color for a high-end luxury performance car.

On Monday this guy pulled a door shut on me. We need electronic cards to get into our building and as long as I can see their badge, I will hold the door for someone entering the building. Well this jerk went through the trouble of pulling the door shut on me while my hand was on the other side pulling it open. After the door shut I used my badge to open the door and said:
"Thank you"
"Excuse me?"
"I said thank you for shutting the door in my face"
"Well we're not supposed to let people piggy back in"
"Yeah but you still didn't have to slam the door in my face"
"Yeah well I don't need this crap in the morning"

"I love the ladies" - except for the "dumb bitches."
"All I want is a simple thank you" - This is the best demonstration (aside from the title of this thread) that you are no gentleman. You merely seek acknowledgement for your "good deed." If your sterling upbringing requires you to hold to door open - do so - just don't expect to be thanked for it.
By your statement's you're holding doors b/c you were raised to do so. You have no right to expect a thank you for doing something for someone who never asked you to do it for them. Not all women appreciate having the door held open. Your upbringing apparantly ommitted the fact that in 2003, most women have managed to learn how doors function and are capable of the arduous task of opening one for themselves.
I've also noticed that people who feel so "gentlemanly" for doing something so inconsequential are rarely the type of people who do laundry for their wife and kids, or change a diaper, or talk to their families, or bother to concern themselves with the activities of their children.
The world can do without door openers - especially those who do so expecting to be thanked ("oh you kind sweet man, look at those muscles holding open the door for lil ole me.")
Show you're a gentleman in other ways.

No. The world could do with MORE door holders, and more people who say thank you when they have the door held. I sure as hell expect someone to say thank you when I hold the door for them. It's called being polite, because guess what? I didn't have to hold the door for you and I went out of my way to do it.

right on tc.
hk, i'll agree i shouldn't expect a thank you, but not getting one does aggravate me. letting a door shut on someone behind me makes me feel "bad" for a moment. bad meaning i will notice that i didn't do it, knowing i could have done it, and i feel awkward, even to a stranger.
my point is that my act of politeness should be equally received. if i'm nice to you you should be the same, i hope. and sorry, but it does bother me when it's not recipricated. i'm only demanding that people act nice to one another.
and here's my interpretation of why "dumb bitches" might occur. chivalry. at this point, 2003, certain women might expect it and take it for granted. i could be far off base with this one.

This isn't about women who want to be self-reliant and open their own doors. I can't stand those liberal lesbos anyway, but that's a different story entirely. This is about PEOPLE who just don't believe in common courtesy anymore. I think monsterone was just making the comment (that I agree with) that it seems women are less responsive to polite gestures than men. I'll say it again.... SAVAGES. There are so many things through the course of a single day that can set someone off and ruin their mood. The absolute LEAST we can do is be polite and friendly to one another. If saying a simple "thank you" to someone who holds a goddamn door is too much trouble for anyone, please walk off a fucking roof because we don't need you.

No, if you're going to be polite and hold the door open for said person you should not expect anything, yes a thank you WOULD be nice but unfortunately the world inwhich we live is not a very cordial place. If you're going to get fussy over whether or not youre thanked for holding the door open then don't bother doing it. It's a nice arrtribute to be selfless you know, most people can do it it just takes patience and understanding.
As for "having to" hold the door open, no you most definetely do not it is a nice gesture but if you're going to view it as well this percentage said thank you and this percentage didn't why isn't anyone polite anymore? Then whats the point, if the final result is going to leave you aggravated or peeved?

Who's getting fussy over anything? I'm just stating my opinion that people who don't say thank you for simple, yes, SELFLESS gestures are rude. And they are. Period, end of story.
What does the world not being a cordial place have to do with me wanting it to be? I apologize for not sharing your attitude.

Bottom line is nobody OWES anybody ANYTHING unless there is an agreement arranged before hand. Courtesy and obligation are two different things entirely. I would imagine people taught to be polite will do so. Why this general issue with courtesy has a specific gender associated with it I still don't understand. I'm sure there are way more "smart bitches" than "dumb bitches" out there in the world ready to make your day with a quick thank you.
