Why so tame these days?

When the WWF got these ECW guys i was expecting some action. I saw like 2, yes TWO ECW events (ppvs in about 1999) and to make up for the fact that the guys were unknown to me was the unbelievable action these matches had. people were jumping off the fucking cieling it seemed like, onto people laying on tables and whatnot. One dude was falling through the air for about 3 full seconds before making impact on the ground. It was great. Sabu set up a table that went from the guard rail to the ring so it made a nice bridge so to speak. He layed his oppontnt on the table then did some manuver from the ring and landed on the dude, the table broke, they both hit the ground and the table wound upsnapping into Sabus face and busted him wide open. Every match had either moves that litteraly made me nervous, or massive amounts of blood. now Rob Van Damn does a flip every so often and hi-5's Kane. WTF?

they made the big time, why bother and with too many injuries less highspots. I find hardcore matches to be stupid now anyway.

It's not like these people decided not to do it anymore. They are told what to do. Why arent they being told to do this stuff. Its very entertaining.

Due to the huge amount of injuries being suffered over the past couple years, WWe decided it would be better for all of its wrestlers to work a more mat-oriented style of match, with little to no ''spots''. It's very commendable on WWe's part (wow, who'd thought I'd ever say this? :) ), and hopefully it'll force some wrestlers to put on more entertaining matches without having to resort to high-risk manuevers.

Sure, I was always a fan of ''ECW-style'' matches and I'll miss them, but with another wrestler having to sit on the shelf every week due to injuries WWe is wise to try to protect what healthy talent it has left.

Why are they tame? Because they work for the WWE, are getting a decent paycheck, and don't have to kill themselves, sacrificing years off of their ring lives just to pop a crowd of sadistic mutants who have no respect for them at all.

I can't stand Philly wrestling fans.

As for the WWE style, I have no problem with more mat-oriented style and less spots, but unfortunately their definition of "mat-oriented" fits more in line with HHH's slow, plodding matches instead of the work of guys like Benoit or Angle.

Guys like RVD were ridiculous in ECW his matches were 30-45 minute spotfests. They now have maybe 10-15 minutes in a ppv. Also remember they were busting their ass in ECW trying to make the big league. Why paralyze yourself now that you made it? And to be honest i like this style better. It make a highspot more memorable than 1 spot after another after another after another. When they do something big now it seems that much more impressive.

ok, I'm not asking if these wrestlers would prefer to kill themselves if given the option. I'm asking why Vince doesnt make them do it. There is so much f'ing talent in the WWE now that it wouldnt matter if they loose a few. And thats how Vince probally looks at it. Is anybody going to stop watching if any one wrestler is out? I say noway. But people would be more likely to tune in if someone drops 40 feet onto someone laying on a table every week. Just look at how many people remember Foleys HIAC match with undertaker. I'll never forget that! Same goes for Micheals falling off the cage onto that table. Yea those matches shortened thiere carears but so be it. They aint hurting for money.

But the problem is, it usually isn't just one guy who sits on the shelf. There's been several times over the past year or so when several of the fed's upper mid card and main eventers were out all at once, thus forcing Vince to shove into the spotlight schmucks who either haven't earned their spot, or who are long past their prime (Big Show, I'm looking in your direction).

I'm going to regret saying this again, but WWe's being smart by playing it safe, having certain wrestlers tone down their styles, and saving spots for certain matches/ events, instead of having them risk killing themselves in every single match. Besides, as has happened in ECW, if you keep giving fans huge spots in every single match, they'll get bored and probably won't be happy until some poor guy ends up injured or dead preforming some boneheaded stunt just to impress a few bloodthirsty morons.
