My Sicilian grandmother is the
world's hugest Sinatra fan,
while her daughter (my mother)
is a complete Elvis nut. It's
great when they argue over who
does "My Way" better.

My opinion? Sid Vicious.

They have this Sinatra tribute coming up at Radio City Music Hall in October - live orchestra with Sinatra on screen...

"The show does not incorporate Sinatra imitators or sound-alikes, but uses sophisticated projection technology to recreate the feeling of being at a live concert. Each and every song is sung in Frank's own voice, supported by a live 40 piece orchestra conducted by jazz ace, John Pizzarelli.

Frank's musical prowess is elevated by the production's dazzling visual effects and big dance numbers. In addition to the live action on the stage, video interludes of rarely - seen footage from Frank's films and home videos, as well as interviews from the people in his life, place the beloved tunes into the historical, social, and emotional context of his life. It all adds up to a night to remember as we celebrate this icon's lasting impact on music, film, and society at large."

I hope this doesn't sell out...I won't buy tickets until I know the Yankees playoff schedule.

"I'm for anything that gets you through the night, be it prayer, tranquilizers, or a bottle of Jack Daniel's." - Frank Sinatra

"You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on." - Dean Martin

"The day they stop making fun of you is the day they don't give a damn about you." - Sammy Davis Jr.

You can count me as a fan too. I love hearing Sinatra in a dark, smokey bar.

I live in Hoboken so he's everywhere. I live right around the corner from where his childhood house once stood. Every deli and restaurant has pictures of him. Piccolo's use to play it outside its doors all day.

I always found that interesting considering Sinatra called Hoboken a sewer.

Foxx To Play Sinatra?
18 May 2009 1:00 AM, PDT

Jamie Foxx has been tipped to play late Rat Pack crooner Frank Sinatra, according to reports.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Harry Connick Jr. were among the names rumoured to be in contention for the role after it was announced earlier this month that filmmaker Martin Scorsese will direct a biopic.

But now African-American actor Foxx, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in 2004's Ray, has emerged as the favourite to play Ol' Blue Eyes.

And studio bosses are convinced Foxx has the charisma and talent to tackle the role of Sinatra, who died in 1998.

An insider tells Britain's Daily Star, "Jamie would seem to be born to the role. Magnificent voice, convincing acting ability - like Frank himself - born the wrong side of the tracks, makes it big against all odds, has his brush with authority. The guy's a gift."

Um..

What?

I was recently in a play written around Sinatra's music. I sang a bunch of group numbers, but also had 2 duets (Something Stupid and The Way You Look Tonight) and 2 solo's (My Lean Baby and The Best Is Yet To Come). Loved that show.

I think they meant Julia Roberts...who would be a better fit than Foxx.

Harriy Connick Jr. might work as a young Sinatra but Sinatra's career spanned sixty years.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

This is taking the whole politically correct "I don't see color" thing a bit too far if it's true, though.

Maybe they should have gotten an Italian actor to play Ray Charles.

Is this for the Scorcese Sinatra picture coming out?

I heard they weren't gonna go the singing route, and just have the actor lip synch it.

Anyways, Jamie Foxx stinks, and that movie would blow.

By R&F show standards, I'm not a 'fan', but I enjoy the music. He did some good stuff.
I especially like That's Life, It Was A Very Good Year and Luck Be A Lady.
The Nelson Riddle arrangement of 'I've Got You Under My Skin' is awesome (check out the big band shout chorus at 1:55 with trombone solo...damn...).
He was the recipient of some truly great arrangements.
