Okay. Sorry for the SHOCK title, this is actually a serious religious question. Follow me on this one. Lucifer rebelled against God's throne and was cast out of Heaven. Now he sits in Hell where he torments the souls of those who have sinned and not repented. So, in effect, by punishing the wicked is he not actually doing God's work. If he really wanted to upset God, wouldn't he reward the wicked with an eternal paradise that would rival even the house of God?

If the gods were omnipotent as most religions postulate, he, she or they knew in advance that the prince of angels (heh heh - sorry I had to chortle) would rebel. (We'll ignore for now that most religions teach that angels have no free will.)

By not acting to prevent the "rebelion" the gods were responsible for his "fall," if not as conspirators than as accomplices and facilitators.

It's akin to the infamous Kitty Genovese (sp?) case - the woman who was raped in a courtyard while neighbors watched from their apartments. No one called the police.

I think omnipotent is a more powerful term than omniscient.

Omnipotent means without limit to power, which would include omniscience.

On the other hand having infinte knowledge and no power to do anything about it sounds like a Greek tragedy.
