Just heard St. Anger today. What the hell is up with that. At first it was all cool, sounded like them from the eightys then it turns into some pop-punk beat with James yelling. My friend in the car with me asked if it was a new Staind song. Just seems like they're trying to fit into todays music scene.

Metallica lost it a long time ago. But God Bless em, they're trying to find it.

Just cut that part out and ill be happy. I think they realized they started to suck and decided to try to bring it back as you saw on MTV:Icon. They played a bunch of old shit and they been doing that lately.

The last part of the song sounded like they borrowed the beat from avirel levigne. Im not a real big fan of theirs but i can definatly see that they arnt what they used to be.

it stinks on ice. but really, how good can you expect it to be when its called 'Saint Anger'?

Is it just me, or did James' voice sound really messed up?

As far as the song itself goes, its not really what I expected. It hardly sounds like old Metallica at all. I'm still not sure if that's a good or bad thing though.

Terrible. St. Anger needs to be Excommunicated from the Metal Church.

And WHAT is up with the HORRIBLE production on it? I escially noticed it on the drums. Bad bass drum noise that's buried and an open snare sound that is WAY to loud.

For shame, Metallica. You COULD have re-established yourselves in the eyes of Metal fans, but you LOSE! You get NOTHING! GOOD DAY SIR!

With a producer named "Bob Rock", do you expect anything OTHER than horrible production?

Yes, I know he worked with them before. It's still a retarded name.

It almost seems as if they are trying one of two things:

a.) Re-establish a new sound for future bands to follow. Almost like they are trying to break new ground in some ways and trying a bit too hard to sound "different" and "new"

b.) They are going for the type of balls out garagy sound that they had when Re-Revisited came out. The only thing is that hey were COVER songs and they were rcorded in the span of days and meant to sound unproduced which I am totally for. This album has been quite some time in the making and I sure hope the rest of the album does not sound like St. Anger did.

Moe is totally right about the drums and the song itself has too many time changes it hardly makes any sense. No guitar solo either. It may be possible that they may never be able to reclaim their once powerful glory. I was really hoping for a more polished sound like they had even on the Black Album. I will hold out till the record comes out though and pray i don't smash it.

The snare is so high-pitched that it sounds like Lars is in the Bahammas playing a steel drum. Awful...just AWEFUL.

HA! Thanks.

It's just SO disappointing when a band that you KNOW has a UNLIMITED recording, mixing and mastering budget give us a product that sounds worse than some underground recordings I've bought that they had on CD-R for less that a grand.

If they wanted a "gritty" sound, they missed the mark. My only hope is that the whole album isn't like that. But I don't really get albums with different sounds on all the songs, so I'm afraid the whole fucking CD is like that.

Fluffernutter brought up no solos. I'm not a huge fan of dig, gay solos but Metallica used to do it right. So that is a loss of sorts.

It'll still sell millions of copies.
