Hey all,
I"m unemployed and I'm thinking of taking classes for A+ Certification (computer stuff for the people who don't know). I'm just wondering if it would be woth my $$$ to bother doing this? I want to try this, I like to work on computers and all, but I don't want to waste what little money I got on something I have very little chance getting a job with. Thanks for all the help in advance

Pete,
I'm not up on computer careers but one way to check on the health of the industry is to go to a website like careerbuilders.com or monster.com and see how many requests there in that field. Or check the want ads in the papers on Sunday. Just a thought.
Good luck on it anyway!

If you're interested, sure. Knowledge and things to add to your resume are always worth it.
A wise carpenter named Bob once told me
"knowledge is a heavy thing to pick up, but a light thing to carry."

Certifications open more opportunities for employment and can lead to more money.

I'm learning the hard way that an education is very well worth while. I've spent the better part of this past year in school scrambling for credits so that I can get promoted. Do it now, and you'll eventually be happy that you did. And as Moe said above, the worst that can happen is that you learn something more about what youre interested in.

What Chris says is true-No knowledge is wasted. I remember I was taking some classes in Ecclesiastical History and I told my mom about it. She says something about what kind of job am I going to land with that kind of education. I said that I didnt know but I wasn't looking for a job in that field- I just wanted to learn something in that field. She was baffled!
Chris-that reminds me-When I went on the job, all you needed was a high school diploma-then again-we didn't have the response to civil service jobs back then like they do today-mostly vets took the job when I went on!

All my education tortured the shit out of me when I was in school.
Was it worth it?
Abso-fucking-lutely.
One thing they can never take away from you is your education/diploma(s).
Go for it!

As all are saying, any increased knowledge is beneficial.
Currently back in school for for my MBA. It's been a bitch to do with work and family, but it's just about done and I'm already applying much of the knowledge I've picked up.

Eventually, I plan to go for my doctorate, so I can have the board name "Dr. JustJon" :)

I'm currently in school getting my PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I plan on applying to vet school (probably apply this fall because I don't feel like taking the GREs again and I can't really do any better than I did on them, but this is the last year that I can still report my scores) and putting myself another $100,000 in debt. Actually I think I just plan on staying in school for as long as possible.
Make sure that financially you can afford it and just do it. You'll be happy you did.

EvilPete, A+ alone won't get you into the door. However, don't goto school for the A+. Go download the training videos and then goto http://www.braindumps.com for the practice test. Both parts are pretty easy. After A+, got get your Network+ Certification. But these practice exams and videos are all available online:)

Is school worth it, is a question that really depends on a lot of the situation.
I'm in school now earning my BFA in Theater Technology with two different minors, and sometimes I wish I had just taken a certificate course.
If you go back, find out what is expected of you as far as credits, AND see if they have career placement. Cause that is super worth the time and money and effort youd put into ther classes. If the professors feel your worth it, theyll pull for you and hand out jobs.
