Best/Worst Teacher You Ever Had?!

I just resonded to a thread where someone mentioned a teacher that was a frigging dictator; one of those teachers that just Loves to make you feel like you're wasting his time away from the Crossword...

So I got thinking as to the teacher's I can remember [not as many as I thought I could] so I thought, and here's my Question:

What/Who were the Best and Worst teachers you ever had and Why?

I taught mostly 9th-10th grades; the intro to science and biology classes usually. At the first school I taught at my class was across from a teacher that had next-to ZERO control over his class. I mean it would get so bad that I'd have to go in there and get involved coz there so frigging loud the other teachers are getting distracted.

I wanted to feel sorry for the teacher; but he was a frigging Doormat. Pathetic. And worse; I'd get his students the next year in Biology, and of course, they didn't knwo ANY of the stuff they were supposed to have learned in his class. He was so bad and it got so out of control they bought out the last year of his contract so he could retire with full pension a year early; the parent complaints were that huge.

It's so frigging sad.

On the other hand; I had a 6th grade Art Teacher, that was SO cool, and could NOT encourage me enough, and when I brought in some pictures I had drawn; he saw I had drawn them on really cheap paper; so he gives me a whole bunch of that fancy think sketching paper and asked if I could please bring in some work for him to see? And maybe could I help paint a mural in the lunchroom [of the Led Zep 1 album, no less! ya know, the hindenburg pic]! SO cool! And ya learned some cool stuff, and looked Forward to that class.

Teachers like that are sadly rare. But man, a teacher like that can change the world.

8th grade, American History. Mr Berger was awesome. Made it all a cool story that you wanted to listen too not just boring shiz that happend 200 years ago.

BEST: 10th, 11th & 12th grade, Mr. Ken Robinson, taught English & had cool classes like "Rock Poetry". He was also a dean & I got away with so much shit with him. He passed away from cancer about 5 years ago. I would have never graduated without him.

WORST: Ms. Strombelline - shorthand class, bad wig & 60's make-up (in 1979). She hated me & I flunked.

Prof. Schoenheim, Classical Mythology. I just escaped the clutches of this soulless prostitute on Thursday, when I took her final (dated May 1973). She's German and about 212 years old with a huge hump. You are not allowed to use the bathroom during her two hour class or you get reamed out in front of everyone. Class starts at 11, when she promptly shuts the door. Anyone trying to get in past 11 is turned away and marked down as absent. Three absences equal an automatic failure. She told us we could hand in our final papers any time before 4pm last Thursday. I was the only one to take that option instead of handing it in during class, so I asked where I could find her to hand it in at 4. She replied with her favorite phrase, "Well, that's just your problem to figure out!" During our final exam, a student from the next room came in and asked if he could borrow a chair. She ran at him with her arms flailing, screaming "GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT!" in her thick German accent and slammed the door in his face. I sure hope she dies soon.

Mr. John Diorio-American History and American Government classes, Archbishop Molloy HS-made the classes fun and I learned a lot form them

My worst Teacher:
Ms. Maris Mallia-Earth Science, Archbishop Molloy HS-she was a flower child that apparently was still mentally in that frame of mind. Her class was basicly Gym with books. I passed because I didn't try to set the classroom on fire....

Mr. Lehr- Manhattan College-English Lit.

This man taught a class in Shakespeare to engineering students who just had to get so many liberal arts credits to graduate and he knew it. This didn't stop him. He taught Shakespeare like he had grown up with old Will!! I never thought that I would have an interest in Shakespeare but since that day, whenever I can, I will go to see any play by the Bard whether it be high school, college or professionally done. I ran into Mr. Lehr years later and told him what he had done for me. He said something to the effect that even though I was a cop, he always thought I that I had something on the ball. The guy was a class act all the way!!

Mr. Pickton-Sophmore English. He made learning fun. I never though I would enjoy a Shakespeare play so much, but he made MacBeth awesome. He has never yelled once.

Mrs. Writenour and Ms. Focht. Horrible teachers. Mrs. W is a math teacher who is so dumb that it's kind of funny, Ms F is an overbearing femo-nazi Italian teacher. I flunked that class with a 47 and I'm rocking the sign language now.

worst - Miss Grom / 6th Grade:

She had my brother two years earlier and he was the quiet/studious type. She wrote me off before i even entered 6th Grade. She told my Mom 'at one of my brothers parent/teachers meetings' that i looked like a little imp and i had a chip on my shoulder. My Mom didn't like that and let her know about it.

Best Teachers --

Mr. Mac McCafferty HS History teacher,
He was a professed dirty old man, he had a pic of wonder woman in his cabinet. He let us paint the walls of the class room with all of the continents. Behind his cabinets he had a few student paint a pot leaf and a bong. Some of the students had pot plants growing in his window box. One of the other teachers loved the plants so much she wanted them for her class, so he repotted some. He was an all around good guy and made high school fun.

Dr. Poland -- Professor of History -- He was an expert on the Civil War and he taught a great deal about our area Northern Virginia that was not in normal history books. It is wild how we take for granted this area that some of us live in. The road that WJFK is on Little River Tpk is one of the first toll roads in America.
