Scented Gum and Violets

There are certain things in life that you either love or hate -no in betweens. Root Beer perhaps. Gorgonzola cheese. Scotch. Movies with Keanu Reeves. The Mets. Country Music...

One of my all time favorite "binaries" is Scented Gum and its hard candy counterpart...Violets.

I've loved this gum since I was a kid. When I bust out a pack, people either say "I love that shit" or "I hate that shit." If they haven't tried it, they either love it, or say it tastes, variously, like "soap, potpourri, Mr. Bubble bubble bath, or worse.

Yea I love them too...Mostly because they were the only candies that u really did not have to share...They kinda tasted like soap at first but then u would get addicted to them...I never had the gum I should try...Thanx

"Kids in the know" would use Scented gum and Sen-Sen to concel " that first cigarette smell" from their folks. I found all three distasteful and never made the attempt to "acquire a taste".

I like both Scented Gum and Violets, I haven't had them in a long time, but there was something unique about them that I've always liked.

Sen Sen is great too, I haven't see it in a long long time, but I used to love that.

My dad practically snorted Sen Sen. Little black flakes, would make your tongue black and give u a buzz if you poured the whole pack in your mouth.
Those Chowards and Voilets things had a soapy taste to me, but there was something addictive too.
